Job Title: Lab Technician

Reports To: Sequencing Lab Technician Supervisor

Genetic Visions-ST “GVI” is an advanced genomic and genetic services provider to the livestock industry. Position Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Sequencing Services Lab Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for performing various laboratory procedures and technical tasks related to next-generation DNA sequencing. Your primary focus will be on sample preparation, instrument operation, and quality control. You will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and reliable sequencing results for our clients. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Sample preparation: Perform DNA extraction, purification, quantification, and normalization using established protocols. Ensure proper handling and documentation of samples to maintain sample integrity.

2. Instrument operation: Operate state-of-the-art sequencing instruments and associated equipment. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for library preparation, sequencing runs, and data acquisition.

3. Quality control: Conduct quality control checks on samples, reagents, and equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and adherence to quality standards. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to sample quality or instrument performance. Identify and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives.

4. Record keeping and documentation: Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, including sample tracking, experimental procedures, and data analysis. Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations as required.

5. Laboratory maintenance: Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Monitor and replenish laboratory supplies and reagents. Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and guidelines.

6. Communication and collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams and external clients to manage project timelines, deliverables, and expectations. Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, email, internet, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (eg, biology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology) is required.

· Prior experience working in a laboratory setting and handling laboratory equipment such as pipettes, centrifuges, and automated liquid handling systems is highly desirable.

· Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team-oriented environment.

· Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and willingness to learn new techniques and technologies.
