Geo Owl is Hiring a Remote Senior Lidar Analyst (Remote)

Geo Owl is currently seeking a motivated and qualified part-time Senior Lidar Analyst for a remote position. To be qualified, you need relevant experience and meet the requirements listed below. If interested, apply now or contact one of our recruiters.
Position Description:As a Senior Lidar Analyst, you will apply Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) analysis for near-infrared (NIR) and green band topobathymetric lidar processing, along with geospatial technologies, to address natural resource applications. This includes tasks such as change detection, monitoring, extraction and classification of information from imagery, and feature extraction technologies. You will be responsible for developing, managing, and analyzing lidar and geospatial data sets, which encompass bare earth, canopy cover, and other unique and disparate data and information to support resource management projects ranging from local to broad scales.
In this role, you will evaluate and apply new lidar and associated technologies, such as new sensors and platforms, software technologies, data processing and analysis methods, data mining, geospatial modeling, UAV data extraction and interpretation, among others. You will assess their feasibility for use in supporting USFS information needs. Additionally, you will prepare scientific and technical reports, as well as geospatial training materials for evaluation and development projects. You will also conduct product accuracy assessments and identify and apply new and innovative approaches to lidar analysis and modeling.

  • Good oral and written communications skills; ability to communicate technical information, ability to research, interpret and summarize data. Demonstrated lidar analysis and applied remote sensing experience
  • Demonstrated experience processing, analyzing, and modeling in USFS enterprise geospatial software applications, including Esri ArcGIS, R, Python, FUSION, LasTools, Cloud Compare, or ERDAS Imagine
  • Demonstrated experience with lidar, structure from motion, volumetric measurements, multispectral image applications, Digital Surface Models (DSM), Digital Terrain Models (DTM), orthophotography, or point cloud processing
Education Requirements:
  • Certification or degree in a non-related discipline along with related experience to geography, geographic information systems, remote sensing, or a physical/biological/environment/natural resource discipline with substantive coursework in geospatial analysis and modeling, and seven (7) years of relevant work experience
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree related to geography, geographic information systems, remote sensing, or a physical/biological/environment/natural resource discipline with substantive coursework in geospatial analysis and modeling, and five (5) years of relevant work experience
OR
  • Master’s degree related to geography, geographic information systems, remote sensing, or a physical/biological/environment/natural resource discipline with substantive coursework in geospatial analysis and modeling, and two (2) years of relevant work experience
OR
  • PhD degree related to geography, GIS, remote sensing, or a physical/biological/environmental discipline, including emphasis or coursework in geospatial analysis and modeling, and one (1) year of relevant work experience
