We are currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our finance team.
Job Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and maintaining robust financial controls. This role will involve managing the accounting team, preparing financial statements, and providing strategic financial guidance.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the CEO/President, the Controller will be responsible for the company’s fiscal and administrative functions. Key duties include:
Accounting and Finance
· Direct accounting functions ensuring accounting activities are performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
· Prepare and review journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
· Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
· Manage procurement.
· Assist with daily cash activities and capital distributions.
Planning and Reporting
· Lead the company’s annual budgeting process, prepare and maintain annual budgets and multi-year forecasts, and perform analysis of budget/forecast variances and financial trends.
· Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing. Generate detailed balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and metrics reports comparing results vs. budget and prior period.
· Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reporting packages for the CEO/President.
· Provide key metrics reporting, including weekly dashboards, to management.
· Provide ad hoc reporting, analysis, and Excel modeling to support the CEO/President.
Control and Compliance
· Establish and maintain effective internal controls, and ensure the company remains in compliance with GAAP and with applicable laws and rules for finance and tax reporting.
· Serve as lead contact for current lender relationships while providing any lender requirements.
· Manage insurance policies for the firm, renewing them on an annual basis.
· As the company evolves, work collaboratively with the management team to ensure accounting and compliance systems remain effective and scale in sync with the company’s growth.
Management
· Manage accounting including senior AP/AR specialist. Train, mentor, and (when needed) hire personnel. Build a motivated team that provides reliable, responsive service to stakeholders.
· Partner with other leaders in the business to develop and implement process improvements and new technologies to support growth and improve efficiency.
· Evaluate potential acquisitions and, when realized, assist with integration.
Possible Additional Responsibilities
· Manage the CEO/President’s personal finances with the upmost confidentiality and accuracy.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or the related field.
· Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role
· Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Smart Advocate (preferred but not required).
· Strong organizational skills, with the ability and willingness to be able to set up, maintain, and scale systems in an organization that is growing and changing quickly.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, able to provide detailed reporting, modeling, and analysis to support the needs of private equity stakeholders.
· Strong team orientation, able to work well with a diverse team comprised of different functional and cultural backgrounds.
· Strong customer service orientation, committed to providing friendly, timely, and responsive service that meets/exceeds expectations.
· Detail-oriented and committed to quality.
· Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
· Willing and able to work in a fast-changing environment.
· Good communication and interpersonal skills, representing the company professionally and effectively when interacting with external parties, including lenders and customers.
