GEON Performance Solutions is Hiring a Senior Technology Manager Near Avon, OH

The Technology Manager is responsible for leading a team of scientists, engineers and technicians to design, develop, and improve custom polymer compounds. This is accomplished by working closely with the sales, marketing and business development teams to identify and prioritize development opportunities that will further drive the growth of specialty formulations. Leads a team to formulate compounds to meet customers’ requirements. Requires effective resource utilization and team management. Eight plus years direct relevant experience with the ability to interact, present and influence cross functionally and globally both internally and externally with customers. Performs independently and effectively coaches others to achieve results in a matrix environment. Demonstrated ability to influence at the peer level as well as the next level in the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to establish GEON as the premier provider of specialty solutions for customers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to pioneer new technologies and penetrate strategic markets, addressing customer challenges.
  • Enhance customer value through services that optimize processes and improve manufacturability.
  • Oversee innovation portfolios, technology plans, and resources in alignment with business unit priorities.
  • Utilize idea generation and management, project management, design of experiments, DLFSS, and other technological tools effectively.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation driven by creativity, cooperation, collaboration, and engagement.
  • Lead a team of scientists and engineers with the following responsibilities:
  • Independently plan, direct, and coordinate product development functions, modifying existing formulations without compromising properties.
  • Formulate compounds to meet customer specifications for mechanical properties, electrical properties, flame resistance, UV stability, flow, surface appearance, shrinkage, and more.
  • Maintain and protect all developed formulations and those transferred from other GEON sites.
  • Collaborate with the Process/Product Translation/Production Department for production scale-up.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and improving processes in collaboration with the Process/Product Translation/Production Department.
  • Select appropriate raw materials.
  • Source new raw materials for product development purposes.
  • Develop raw material cost-saving programs in partnership with Purchasing, Product, Production, and Sales Departments as needed.
  • Work effectively with product stewardship and testing requirements.
  • Define, approve, and guide R&D projects to advance the development of specialty polymer compounds.
  • Offer technical leadership by mentoring, training, and coaching to balance short-term product customization with mid-term product development.
  • Collaborate globally with technical teams in Europe and Asia to facilitate product translation.
  • Network effectively with other technical and marketing teams within GEON to generate and leverage new ideas and opportunities.
  • Lead the team in supporting marketing and sales by developing product and application data, and providing technical support.
Experience And Education
  • Ph.D. or a M.S in Materials/Polymer Science
  • Prior people leadership experience highly desired
  • Prior experience in the building and infrastructure thermoplastics market
  • Extensive knowledge of the formulation and application of Engineered Thermoplastics in the space
  • Demonstrated product development skills and hands-on experience with compounding and post processing/forming capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success in new product development and launches
  • Six Sigma (DMAIC and DFSS) training/knowledge are preferred
  • Patents & publication of technical papers in industry conferences a plus
  • Track record of leading a high performing team.
  • Effective project management skills including effective prioritization and allocation of technical resources.
  • Knowledge of Industry Regulations and Standards: Understanding of relevant industry standards, compliance requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Experience in Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams including R&D, marketing, sales, and operations.
  • Proficiency in Data Analysis and Modeling Tools: Experience using data analysis, modeling software, and tools such as DesignExpert.
  • Proven Leadership in Technology Strategy Development: Experience in developing and executing technology strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to earn respect, promote teamwork, and lead by example.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of Executive, Senior, Operations, and Customer.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proven ability to influence and motivate others to achieve results.
  • Strong technical and regulatory expertise in relevant environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements as well as knowledge of and implementation experience with applicable industry standards including but not limited to ISO 14001 and /ISO 45001, Responsible Care, etc.
