George Fox University's announces a tenure track faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program to begin in August 2024. Our team is eager to welcome a new faculty member to join us in pursuing the department's mission of innovation, excellence, evidence-based practice, and generous service.

About the Job:

The individual in this faculty position will be responsible for leading research, teaching, and service projects. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to teach and generate research in their area of expertise.

About the Department:

The George Fox DPT program is housed in a new 17-million-dollar Medical Science Building in Newberg, OR. The state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratory includes force plates, foot pressure systems, marker-less 3D kinematic tracking, electromyography, and ultrasound imaging. Faculty experts in neuroscience, biomechanics, engineering, education, and clinical practice work collaboratively across specialty areas to advance physical therapy.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Academic Responsibilities
    • Teaching entry-level DPT students areas of expertise consistent with accreditation standards and current evidence.
    • Utilizing state-of-the-art strategies for effective classroom instruction.
    • Assessing student performance in meeting standards for state-of-the-art physical therapy practice.
    • Participating in curricular design to adapt and improve entry-level education in the area of expertise.
  • Scholarly Responsibilities
    • Developing and implementing a scholarly research agenda in an expertise area specific to physical therapy or related health care areas.
    • Conducting and publishing research areas of expertise.
    • Identifying sources for and participating in the preparation and implementation of grants.
    • Maintaining a program of scholarly activity appropriate to academic rank.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
    • Providing instruction, supervision, and counsel to students.
    • Participating in identifying and recruiting qualified applicants for enrollment into the DPT program.
    • Participating in the life of the university community and other duties as assigned by the Director of the DPT program.
    • Serving on committees as assigned by the Director of the DPT program.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc. and works well with a variety of people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Terminal academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Oregon.
  • Previous academic research and teaching experience.
  • Experience in designing and conducting independent and/or collaborative research in clinical education or related areas.
  • The ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Salary and rank:

  • Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated, though candidates with significant teaching experience at previous institutions may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.
