George Koch Sons, LLC is Hiring a Logistics Specialist Near Evansville, IN

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Logistics Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ordering trucks, overseeing the shipping and receiving functions, and ensuring the efficient packing and handling of large equipment components in a job shop environment. The Logistics Specialist will play a critical role in maintaining smooth logistics operations and ensuring timely delivery and receipt of goods.
Key Responsibilities
1. Truck Ordering and Scheduling
  • Coordinate with transportation providers to order trucks as needed for the timely dispatch and receipt of shipments.
  • Schedule and track the movement of trucks to ensure adherence to delivery timelines.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with carriers to optimize costs and service levels.
  • Maintain records of truck orders, routes, and costs.
2. Shipping and Receiving Oversight
  • Supervise the shipping and receiving operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Verify and inspect incoming shipments for completeness and damages, ensuring compliance with purchase orders and specifications.
  • Prepare shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels.
  • Implement and maintain an effective inventory tracking system to monitor the status of shipments and inventory levels.
3. Packing and Handling of Equipment Components
  • Develop and enforce procedures for the safe packing and handling of large equipment components.
  • Oversee the packing of goods, ensuring they are secure and protected for transport.
  • Collaborate with the production and assembly teams to schedule packing activities in alignment with production timelines.
  • Train and guide staff on best practices for packing and handling heavy and oversized items.
4. Compliance and Quality Assurance
  • Ensure all logistics activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits of shipping and receiving processes to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance measures to ensure the integrity and quality of goods during transit.
5. Communication and Coordination
  • Liaise with internal departments, including production, procurement, and sales, to coordinate logistics activities and address any issues or concerns.
  • Provide regular updates to management on the status of shipments and logistics operations.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints related to shipping and delivery, ensuring prompt resolution.
6. Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance logistics efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in logistics and transportation.
  • Participate in the development and execution of logistics strategies to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics, shipping, and receiving, preferably in a job shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Previous international shipping experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and systems (e.g., TMS, WMS, ERP).
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for handling and transporting large equipment.
