Georgetown County Government is Hiring a Collections Analyst Near Georgetown, SC

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under limited supervision is responsible for various specialized accounting and bookkeeping operations for the department involving financial transactions on a county-wide and interdepartmental basis. Assists in handling monies while maintaining correct reports under deadlines as mandated by state law. Reports to the Deputy County Treasurer.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs accounting and bookkeeping functions, accounts for monies collected, records financial transactions, balances and reconciles accounts, verifies financial documents and prepares summary statements.

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports for accounts including financial reports for submission to local, State, and Federal agencies.

Reconciles all bank accounts monthly and works closely with County Finance staff to ensure the accounts balance to the general ledger on a timely basis.

Performs various internal audit procedures.

Evaluates internal processes and procedures and makes recommendations for any changes and/or improvements to Treasurer.

Provides account analyses, management reports, trend analyses, and special projects as needed.

Verifies monthly that the interface from the Treasurer Office’s postings of tax collections on the Treasurer Office’s software to the County’s general ledger is working properly and is reconciled.

Supervise daily counter activities, monitoring transactions, and ensuring deposits are prepared and deposited in a timely fashion.

Attends meetings, training conferences and seminars as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Performs general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, answering the telephone, etc. Utilizes word processing and spreadsheet software to facilitate efficient communication and recordkeeping processes.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform other related duties, as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a closely related field, with a minimum of three years of experience working in Finance and/or Accounting at progressive levels of responsibility; or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Proficient knowledge of accounting principles and procedures required.
