Position Title: Guest Programs PT Team Specialist, Level 1 - Seasonal

Classification: Non-exempt / Part-time Seasonal

Direct Report: Manager of Guest Programs

Position Summary:

The Part-Time Guest Programs Team Specialist Level 1 (seasonal) will create a fun and engaging experience for our guests, including families, children, and adults. This involves proactively engaging with guests, making connections between our guests and the natural world, and providing information about our animals and exhibits. The Guest Programs Team Specialist Level 1 is responsible for ensuring guest and animal safety, while working in various public positions throughout the Aquarium’s fast-paced and dynamic environment. The Guest Programs Team Specialist Level 1 receives training that enhances their ability to interact with and inspire our guests. When the Guest Programs Team Specialists have been with the department for a specific timeframe, they can expand their skills through additional programs offerings and trainings such as assisting with the Celebrations program, the Narration program, the Behind the Seas Tour program, and other opportunities for peer leadership. All positions within the Guest Programs Department require team members to have the ability to effectively communicate with guests, create a welcoming environment for both guests and their fellow team members, seek out opportunities to improve guest experience whenever possible, and make lasting memories that our guests will remember for the rest of their lives. 

The Guest Programs Team Specialist Level 1 position starts with a seasonal probationary period of 90 days to ensure that everyone is the right fit for the Guest Programs Department. After that period, if it is determined they should remain with the department, they will become a Guest Programs Team Specialist Level 2.

Responsibilities:

  1.  Present engaging floor experiences to Aquarium guests. Guest roles including working at touch pools, engaging guests at exhibits, supervising interactive experiences such as a rope bridge, and working in a variety of guest-facing positions throughout the aquarium.
  2. Ensure guest and animal safety as top priority.
  3. Provide engaging, educational experiences for our guests through interpretation that supports our vision and mission through the use animal information, conservation messaging, and relevant connections while engaging our guests through welcoming hospitality.
  4. Staff indoor exhibit areas as needed while engaging our guests in conversation and interactive activities, using necessary supplies and equipment.
  5. Guide the guest experience to ensure a memorable and positive visit; this includes ensuring comfort and safety of guests while fostering educational growth.
  6. Set up and breakdown equipment and activities as necessary.
  7. Assist with special educational activities and programs.
  8. Work to ensure guest satisfaction, notifying appropriate personnel about challenges and successes in the exhibit area.
  9. Be an active part of the Aquarium team.
  10. Perform other duties as workload necessitates.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma required.
  2. Prefer College Degree in biology, psychology, education, recreation, or related field.
  3. One year experience in guest or customer service and/or an informal educational setting preferred.
  4. Formal training in marine biology or background in animal knowledge is not required but a plus. Training in animal knowledge is provided.
  5. Must pass background check.
  6. Must pass drug screening.
  7. Must be able to work flexible hours - including weekends and evenings - not to exceed 30 hours per week.
  8. Must be able to attend all required training.
  9. Responsible for attending comprehensive training courses that will be throughout the year.
