Staff Attorney
The Georgia Office of Legislative Counsel is accepting applications for one or more staff attorneys. Primary responsibilities include working with legislators in drafting legislation, serving as legal counsel for legislative committees, advising members and committees on legal issues, preparing legal opinions on statutory interpretation and constitutionality, conducting legal research, and performing other duties as assigned. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and for extended hours leading up to and during legislative sessions, which typically continue without interruption for several months each year. Excellent work delivered in a strictly confidential and time-sensitive manner is required.
Staff attorneys in the Office of Legislative Counsel shall be active members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, hold a juris doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA accredited law school, and possess and demonstrate advanced skills in legal writing, client interaction, interpersonal communications, and time management at all times.
The Office of Legislative Counsel must avoid all appearances of bias or partiality and does not employ persons actively identified with a political faction or persons related to members of the General Assembly or Executive or Judicial officials.
