Job OverviewUnder the supervision of the Senior Director of Crane Maintenance, the Manager of Maintenance - Safety & Training manages, coordinates, and implements the safety and training program for the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) Crane, RTG, Fleet, and Storeroom Maintenance Departments. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity, and Opportunity.

Job Duties
  • Manages all aspects of the maintenance safety program. Works closely with department managers and corporate safety to establish job safety practices and procedures. Monitors compliance with safety goals and initiatives. Reports weekly results to maintenance department and staff.
  • Manages maintenance department new hire orientation. Ensures all new hires receive necessary tools, training, and support needed to transition into GPA maintenance department. Works closely with department managers to establish new hire training criteria. Tracks new hire training during new employee’s probationary period.
  • Monitors ongoing training of all department employees while working closely with the General Manager of Workforce Development & Training.
  • Performs regular audits of GPA equipment. Also performs regular safety audits for the maintenance facility. Provides audit results to department managers and staff for any required follow-up repair actions.
  • Monitors and tracks regulatory and other significant inspection requirements for equipment. Provides department managers and staff with information needed to maintain equipment inspection compliance as required.
  • Coordinates with department managers to prepare monthly preventative maintenance compliance, utilization, and downtime reports for cranes, RTGs, spreaders, container handlers, and other GPA equipment as required.
  • Works closely with department managers to establish ongoing maintenance training programs to support the maintenance JTA system. Prepares monthly training report (hours and cost).
  • Maintains current knowledge of various regulations and laws as they may relate to port activities, in general, and specifically, the maintenance of STS, RTG, RMG, and MHC equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of the current state of the art port related crane equipment.
  • Participates in inter-departmental meetings (Crane Operations, Ship Operations, Container Operations, etc.) as needed.
Job RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as members of the shipping industry, GPA vendors, and the general public required.Ability and willingness to climb and work at high elevations required.Ability to operate heavy equipment, including container cranes, gantry cranes, and mobile cranes desired.Understanding of OSHA and other codes, rules, regulations applicable to Port related crane equipment.Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required.
Experience
  • Formal training or extensive on-the-job training in areas related to operation, maintenance and repair of Port related fleet and bulk handling equipment Preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience Preferred
Education
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Business, or related field
Licenses & Certifications
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire
