JOB PURPOSE Position Title: Chinese Library Assistant
Division: Library
FLSA: Non-Exempt
AIS Position Status: Assistant
Hours per week: 8h/ every two weeks
Reports to: Librarians
Starting Date: August 2024
The Library Assistant works with the library team in the overall day to day operation of the library and contributes to the delivery of the school library program, which includes providing Chinese language programming to students and supporting collection development of Chinese materials for the library.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Assists other library staff members in the overall day to day operation of the library
- Assists in the planning and the delivery of the library program: storytelling, reading challenges, library skills activities
- Maintains the library in a clean, safe and orderly condition
- Optimizes and prepares the use of all the library spaces and equipment
- Assists with circulation of print materials, including but not limited to the loan, return, reservation, and weeding of materials
- Shelves library books and materials on a daily basis
- Assists in the development and creation of displays and announcements to encourage library usage
- Performs clerical duties (i.e. processing materials and mail, covering/repairing books)
- Assists patrons in locating and selecting appropriate materials
- Maintains appropriate behavior of students
- Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about patrons
- Performs such other duties as are consistent with the position and assigned by the librarians
- Participates in professional learning activities which align with school and library improvement goals
- Participates in professional learning activities designed to enhance technology, information literacy or library management skills
- Participates in staff development opportunities provided by the school
REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor degree or equivalent
- Proficiency in English and Chinese
- Experience with and knowledgeable about library organization
- A commitment to equity and inclusion
- Enjoys working with students, staff and parents in an educational setting
- Has strong computer skills and familiarity with Google applications
- Loves books and reading
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, bend, squat, reach and lift, carry, push or pull light weights
