Department Information

The Excel Program offered by the Georgia Institute of Technology is a four-year college program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I / DD) leading to two separate Certificates.

The first is a Certificate in Academic Enrichment, Social Fluency and Career Exploration and the second is a Certificate in Social Growth, Leadership, and Career Development.

Excel provides a structured, supportive, and inclusive postsecondary educational opportunity and addresses the full scope of the needs of this population from fundamental academics to social activities and vocational preparation.

The program activities are categorized into one or more categories : academics, social fluency, independent living, career exploration, and development.

Excel is housed in the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC) is a unit within the Office of the Provost at Georgia Tech.

CEISMC serves as the primary connection point between Georgia Tech faculty and students and the preK-12 STEM education community.

Job Summary

This position will interact with students, parents, staff, faculty members, representatives of community organizations and other Inclusive Postsecondary Education Programs.

Identify and communicate service opportunities and coordinate student involvement and support for those opportunities. This position will interact on a consistent basis with : student, parents, faculty members, representatives of community organizations.

This position typically will advise and counsel : students and representatives of community organizations. This position will supervise : NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Provide leadership for the Community Service office and advising for all student community service related efforts.

Job Duty 2 -

Provide advice and support to faculty and staff members in service learning or co-curricular program.

Job Duty 3 -

Serve as a Georgia Tech liaison to not for profit community organizations.

Job Duty 4 -

Provide resources and training for students related to safety and liability issues involved in community service programming.

Job Duty 5 -

Participate in recruitment, selection, and formal leadership training of student leaders.

Job Duty 6 -

Write grant / giving proposals for community service and service learning programs; manage grant, gifts, and corporate sponsorships.

Job Duty 7 -

Develop marketing and promotion of community service / service learning projects and programs.

Job Duty 8 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Two to four years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Master's Degree in Student Development, Higher Education or related field

Preferred Skills

Specialized topical knowledge of current best practices for formal and natural supports for students with I / DD

Knowledgeable of the current standards, assessment, and methods of leadership and mentorship development

Experience organizing / facilitating leadership development trainings

Comfortable working in an interdisciplinary team.

Knowledge of Person-Centered planning (PCP), Family-Centered Planning

Knowledge of available systems of care for students with I / DD.

Knowledge of executive functioning skills and experience working with individuals with I / DD

Experience in mentorship programs for students with I / DD.

Knowledge of various services offered by state and local government to individuals with I / DD

Certification in PEERS for Adolescents an evidence-based social skills treatment

Experience instructing PEERS for Adolescents for students with I / DD

Familiarity with using One USG

Program development will involve paid and volunteer mentor recruitment and the creation of interdisciplinary teams to provide the best system of care for the student.

The position will be responsible for individual and group supervision of both Excel students and their mentors.

Administrative responsibilities will include mentor matching, coordinating training and leadership development opportunities for the students and mentors, working with colleges, programs and staff across campus, and facilitating campus involvement for the EXCEL students.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

This job requires working knowledge of student counseling related to service learning programs and community service opportunities within a university environment.

This includes skills in organization, program development and management, marketing / promotion, multi-tasking and written, spoken and interpersonal communications skills.

Use of office related computer applications is required.
