Position OverviewJoin our team as a Financial Counselor, where you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals and families with their financial needs. You will provide guidance and support through telephone, internet, and community events. This position requires excellent listening skills, empathy, and the ability to identify and address clients' goals and concerns.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct one-on-one financial counseling sessions to evaluate needs and develop strategies to help clients resolve financial issues, achieve goals, and enhance their overall well-being.
Educate clients on topics such as bankruptcy, collections, consumer protection laws, court judgments, credit and debt issues, credit reports, financial planning, retirement, housing issues, identity theft, money management, student loans, banking, and wage garnishments.
Assist clients in creating personalized action plans to support and motivate them toward their financial goals.
Provide ongoing education, guidance, and resources to empower clients to successfully implement their plans, address immediate problems, and change behaviors.
Schedule and confirm client appointments, reschedule as necessary, and conduct follow-up or outreach calls.
Collect, track, and report data, and input session notes for every client interaction using the client management database.
Offer confidential referrals to appropriate, vetted non-profit organizations using our national online database (e.g., food banks, public benefits, state bar).
Complete required training and participate in ongoing professional development.
Represent our organization at community events, partner meetings, and workshops.
Obtain certifications within 90 days of employment, including Money Coach, NACCC Exam and Certification, and Compliance Courses.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
Bilingual in Spanish.
Associate's degree from an accredited college.
Experience in financial services, financial planning, social work, community organizing, teaching, or related fields.
Community service experience such as volunteering, coaching, counseling, or mentoring.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and virtual meetings.
Ability to use a client management system.
Strong interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, effective oral and written communication, problem-solving ability, organizational skills, adaptability, punctuality, and teamwork.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree or one to two years of related experience and/or training in areas such as EAP, financial services, counseling, banking, credit, and collections, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work EnvironmentThis is a remote position. We provide all necessary equipment for your home office setup. A strong internet connection is required, with equipment directly plugged into the router/modem (no Wi-Fi). A fixed desk, workstation, or home office is necessary.
