What We Do
Sequoia is on the lookout for versatile individuals who can marry the art of underwriting with the science of technology. We're in search of candidates who possess a diverse skill set and mindset, recognizing that modern underwriting requires a blend of quantitative analysis and human-centric judgment. As a Product Underwriting Counsel, you'll collaborate with leaders across various departments to tackle complex challenges and drive innovation in underwriting practices.
What You'll Get to Do
  • Work closely with the VP of Sequoia Underwriting to realize our vision of leveraging the best of human expertise and technology for the benefit of First American and its clients.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different backgrounds to find the optimal balance between technology and risk selection, ensuring a profitable and compliant insurance business in the 21st century.
  • Mentor and develop underwriting talent, cultivating a team of multidisciplinary thinkers who are passionate about driving change in the industry.
  • Contribute to the development of new technologies, products, and services, bridging the gap between technical and business perspectives.
  • Provide strategic guidance on the role of technology in title insurance and settlement services to the leadership team.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with diverse stakeholders, from technologists to business leaders.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities or a willingness to develop empathetic leadership skills based on the principle of extreme ownership.
  • Effective communication skills, with the flexibility to adapt your message for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with modern product development processes and user-centered design principles.
  • Expertise in real estate title insurance and settlement services, with a keen interest in staying updated on industry trends.
  • A proactive approach to learning and self-improvement, coupled with intellectual curiosity and a drive to challenge the status quo.
  • Technical proficiency, including a basic understanding of software engineering concepts or technical requirement writing.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, along with a law degree.
  • 5 years of experience in real property law or technology law.
  • 5 years of experience in the title industry, particularly in title search/examination or underwriting.
Location: Remote candidates welcome.
Salary Range: $168,125.00 - $210,107.85 annually. (Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, and location.)
