As a Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in managing our financial operations and ensuring the integrity of our accounting processes. You will work closely with various departments, providing accurate and timely financial information to support our business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- **Month-End and Year-End Close:** Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including performing select balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
- **Intercompany Transactions:** Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions across multiple entities to ensure seamless consolidation.
- **Fixed Assets Accounting:** Ensure accurate accounting of fixed assets according to US GAAP. Provide guidance on accounting treatment for fixed asset projects, and handle fixed asset creation, disposition, roll forwards, and reconciliations.
- **Lease Accounting:** Review agreements to ensure compliance with ASC 842 for lease accounting.
- **Financial Reporting:** Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and disclosures in accordance with GAAP standards.
- **Budgeting and Forecasting:** Assist in developing seasonal budgets and forecasts, and analyze budget variances to provide insights for decision-making.
- **Internal Controls:** Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and assist in the implementation of new controls to enhance the accounting process.
- **Tax Filings:** Assist in the preparation of tax filings and support external tax consultants to ensure accurate and timely submission.
- **Audit Support:** Collaborate with external auditors for annual financial statement audits and handle Prepared By Client (PBC) requests.
- **Process Improvement:** Identify and implement opportunities for improving finance processes and increasing efficiencies within the department.
- **Team Support:** Provide assistance and support to accounting teams as needed, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- **Additional Duties:** Perform other related duties as required to support the finance and accounting functions.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles with increasing responsibility.
- Experience in public accounting is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and financial reporting.
- Experience with ERP systems such as NAV or NetSuite is preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial data.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience in the hospitality industry is a plus but not required.
- Residency or a willingness to relocate to the Petoskey/Northern Michigan area is preferred to facilitate collaboration and engagement with the team.
