- Must have BLS certifications, must be attached to the submission (Must be through the American Heart Association)
Certification Details
- The Radiation Therapist is an ARRT Registered Therapist responsible for the administration of radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- The Therapist will interact with a variety of people including patients with cancer, physicians, nurses, patient's family, and co-workers.
- Must possess good interpersonal communication skills.
- Involved in the care of all age groups from newborns through geriatrics.
- Help ease patient's fear and apprehension about radiation therapy.
- Set up patients properly for accurate delivery of radiation treatment.
- Responsible for daily warm-up of treatment machine.
- Check simulator for proper operation.
- Position patient for simulation of treatment area using immobilization devices as necessary.
- Produce acceptable radiographs for simulation.
- Tattoo the patient's treatment area when applicable.
- Photograph the patient's treatment area & face to be placed in the patient's chart.
- Maintains audio and visual contact with patients at all times.
- Schedule the patient for daily tatment.
- Verify weekly weight check.
- Perform portal localization films once a week or as prescribed.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Effectively communicate with physicians, nurses, patients, Medical Center staff, and co-workers.
- Help transport hospital patients to department.
- Attend all required hospital and departmental inservice programs.
Job Details
- Must have ARRT certification.
- Must have BLS certifications; RQI certifications will not be accepted.
- Must have experience using Elekta or Varian equipment.

Unit Specific Information
- Make sure the patient's marks are maintained during the course of treatment.
- Explain to the patient what adverse reactions might occur during treatment course.
- Notify the RN or Radiation Oncologist of patient's adverse reaction when necessary.
- Make sure Radiation Oncologist sees the patient at least once a week during treatment course.
- Do weekly chart checks to make sure prescription is being followed.
- Make sure all addition is correct, photos are placed in chart, positive pathology report is in chart, consents are signed and placed in the chart, and the History and Physical is done.
- Make sure linen is stocked and if not, call Linen Services to have needed supply delivered.
- Keep treatment and simulation rooms neat, orderly and stocked with the necessary supplies.
- Inform Chief Radiation Therapist of items that need to be ordered.
