Description
Position Purpose:
The Senior Staff Accountant will ensure proper day-to-day operations of the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams. The Senior Staff Accountant provides support to homeowner associations customers (HOA) by directing accounting functions in accordance with established guidelines set forth in the management agreements, accounting principles and company policies. This position maintains operational standards for the accounting staff to maintain quality, consistency and meet specific deliverables. This position works closely with homeowners, property managers, vendors and directly reports to the Director of CAM Accounting.
Primary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Direct, develop and oversee daily responsibilities for the Billing, Receivables, Collections and Payables team members.
• Works as a liaison for Homeowners and Property Managers on company policy relating to the accounting process (i.e., homeowner payment concerns, delinquency issues, and filing process, etc.)
• Assist with any escalated HOA concerns for managers and owners to find acceptable solutions and timely follow through.
• Oversee the process of customer billings for all business segments such as Monthly Assessments, Special Assessments, Homeowner Statements accurately and in a timely fashion.
• Oversee and manage the timeliness and quality control of HOA Payments received to include accurate GL account coding, avoiding duplicate payments, entering payables, and verifying payee contact.
• Review and manage delinquency process and assist and manage setup, deliverables and reporting concerning collections.
• Manage the process of ownership changes within an association to include processing and applying payments received from title companies by creating and closing accounts. Ensure information is available for Realtors and Closing attorneys. Audit and maintain accuracy.
• Audit, review and ensure vendor packages are processed timely and proper records maintained for timely payment. Update vendor specific configuration to enhance automation and improve quality.
• Special projects and other Duties as Assigned
• Month end closing of the general ledger & financial preparation for multiple entities.
• Conduct research on any outstanding or unexplained items.
Requirements
Knowledge & Skills Requirements:
• Must have a minimum of an AS Degree in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of 6 years of experience OR a BS Degree in Accounting or Finance and 4 years of experience.
• Must have experience in both AP and AR.
• A minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a supervisory or management role within accounting in a small to medium size company
• Hands on experience with accounting software applications with the ability to research technical accounting issues.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves and pitch in wherever needed in the accounting department.
• Experience working for a HOA or Property Management company preferred.
• Excellent computer skills, including spreadsheet software required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership ability
• Ability to make independent judgments which have highly significant impacts on the organization.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time effectively while meeting deadlines.
• High attention to detail
