The Scheduling Director serves as a partner to the business unit management teams in planning, scheduling and time control functions for business unit operations while overseeing a scheduling team across multiple Midwest business units and locations.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight relative to all aspects of planning & scheduling for all projects
  • Make recommendations regarding salary planning and career advancement for scheduling professionals
  • Provide input on project pursuits including fee proposals, RFP responses, presentation content, etc.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place so that proper schedule techniques and update procedures are followed on all projects
  • Report concerns to business unit management regarding proper project controls on any projects within a business unit
  • Participate in monthly business unit leadership meetings and report on the state of scheduling and project risks
  • Assume lead role for Scheduling in the business units strategic planning processes
  • Set Scheduling-related Customer Satisfaction goals
  • Develop high-quality schedules that conform to the project contract and design that are coordinated with the Gilbane field team, subcontractors, vendors and design team
  • Ensure schedules have proper logic to meet the project requirements and protect from risk
  • Train others in the area of risk identification and mitigation
  • Manage department workload and deliverables and balance with available backlogged recoveries and recovery targets
  • Work closely with preconstruction department on tasks related to 4D scheduling, Estimating, Coordination and Cost & Resource Loading
  • Oversee and provide guidance to the scheduling department staff in all matters involving written and verbal communication
  • Coordinate overall planning with the project team
  • Conduct monthly project audits that identify areas of risk or concern with the schedule as necessary
  • Keep up to date on the latest software releases in the industry related to scheduling and determine if they are options for Gilbane to consider that may be advantageous to improving our schedule capabilities
  • Monitor overall performance indicators
  • Exhibit good understanding of safety protocols & initiatives
  • Champion Quality Management efforts throughout the business unit
  • Have a thorough understanding of Lean Construction Techniques

Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • BS in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field
  • 15-20 years of related experience working for a construction manager
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficient with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Project
  • In-depth knowledge of construction means, methods, sequences, crew sizes, productivity rates, manpower analysis, cash flow, and CPM scheduling
  • Experience and ability to manage risk through schedule control
  • Ability to conduct planning sessions in front of various stakeholders including clients, subcontractors and design teams
  • In-depth understanding of market conditions related to labor and material delivery
  • Excellent planning and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
