Gilbert Employment Law is Hiring a Legal Assistant Near Silver Spring, MD

Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Legal Assistant. As a Legal Assistant, you will provide essential support to our legal team and assist in the efficient operation of our law firm. This is a full-time position with opportunities for growth and professional development. This position requires the employee to be in-person at our location in downtown Silver Spring. As this position requires the employee to send mail, remote work opportunities will be at the discretion of the employee's supervisor absent a documented necessity for remote work.

Day-to-Day Duties**:

  • Providing client and litigation support services for the benefits team , under the supervision of the lead benefits attorney and the supervisory benefits Paralegal;
  • Answering client calls and emails regarding case status updates;
  • Corresponding via phone, e-fax, and email with clients, medical offices and government agencies to provide, request, or obtain documents;
  • Preparing typewritten notes on calls or documents for review and further action by the Supervisory Benefits Paralegal;
  • Requesting, reviewing, and filing relevant information and documentation from clients;
  • Scheduling appointments for client calls with attorneys;
  • Maintaining client files (paper and electronic);
  • Tracking case status, from initial information-gathering through application preparation and submission, in case management software systems and reports;
  • Completing application forms in Adobe Acrobat Pro;
  • Using templates to draft cover letters and application materials in coordination with the client and under the supervision of the senior benefits paralegal;
  • Submitting application materials and other application-related communications via email, fax, and/or mail to federal or local government offices; and
  • Performing other duties as necessary.

This position occasionally requires paid overtime.

Basic Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to maintain good client relationships;
  • Must be detail-oriented, motivated to achieve excellence, and able to manage multiple deadlines at once;
  • Must be proficient at proofreading, editing, and formatting documents in Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Outlook);
  • Must be able to work in a diverse team-oriented environment with different personalities and varying schedules;
  • Must be able to read and annotate large or voluminous sets of documents, including medical records;
  • Must be proficient at taking and typing notes; and
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
