Gillette Children's is Hiring an Orthotics & Prosthetics Technician I Near Paul, MN

The Orthotics & Prosthetics Technician is a full time (1.0 FTE / 40 hours p/week) position located at 455 Phalen Boulevard in St. Paul. This position will offer flexibility of 8 hours shifts between 3:30am to 5:30pm.

This position independently fabricates, repairs and adjusts safe, functional, and cosmetically pleasing orthoses and prostheses that meet or exceed Gillette and industry quality standards. Fabrication includes filling casts, modifying positive models, vacuum forming or laminating, establishing trimlines, and other technical functions. Positions may require some patient contact in the evaluation, repair and adjustment of an orthoses and/or prostheses. Assists orthotists and prosthetists in the repair and adjustment of existing orthoses and prostheses. Patient care is provided under the direct supervision of an ABC certified orthotist-prosthetist.

Compensation & Benefits:

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $20.26 to $30.37, with a median wage of $25.32. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ensures lab and individual work area are regularly cleaned and kept orderly to promote a safe and efficient work area.
  • Utilizes proper materials, equipment, and methods in a safe and efficient manner to complete projects on or ahead of scheduled completion date.
  • Quality measures require that orthoses are functional, safe, cosmetically pleasing and matching the fabrication criteria provided on the fabrication form.
  • Completes workflow section of the fabrication form to indicate ownership of a specific portion(s) of the fabrication process.
  • Communicates in a professional manner.
  • Provides some patient contact in the evaluation, repair and adjustment of orthoses and prostheses.
  • Makes repairs and adjustments to existing orthoses/prostheses as directed by the orthotist/prosthetist.
  • Communicates directly with orthotist/prosthetist to clarify information provided and/or lacking on the fabrication form.
  • Meets Gillette’s customer service expectations by providing prompt service to all customers including patients, families, and hospital staff.
  • Fosters a positive work environment characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, embracing change, and demonstrates willingness to find and learn ways to accomplish the work and make improvements.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication forms
  • Knowledge of power tools like, table saw, band saw, disc sanders, Trautman routers, drill press, cast saw, among others

Preferred:

  • ABC Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician certification and graduate of an NCOPE approved Technician program
  • To be eligible to a promotion to the next level an employee must be in the role for at least 12 months, have successfully completed the Proficiency Checklist of the next level, to have an overall score of “exceeds expectations” on most recent performance review before promotion, to be an employee in good standing
  • Technician III-V: Leadership qualities/skills to effectively train other technicians in all areas of fabrication

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Dependable and have excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Safely operates all types of power equipment to achieve functional, safe and cosmetically acceptable orthoses/prostheses
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements and demands of the position
  • Must be able to work proficiently with Gillette clinical information systems
  • Must complete documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner
