Gillette Children's is Hiring an OTR Clinical Educator-Rehab Therapies Near Paul, MN

0.3 FTE Occupational Therapist Clinical Educator role. This role includes teaming with the 5 other Clinical Educators in activities such as providing education to staff, participating and supporting research initiatives, engaging in outcomes work, and orienting/mentoring staff as needed. Clinical educators also meet with Rehabilitation Therapies Leadership 1x/month to share ideas for innovation, provide updates from the front lines, and report in on the work being done by the team. Due to our current level of St. Paul CE representation, at least one day onsite at a metro location will be required weekly with this position.

Provides leadership for discipline scope of practice and related staff and program development which may include clinical practice guideline or competency development, staff training and education, patient/family education, policy and procedure, and the identification and analysis of new treatment equipment, tools, assessments and modalities. Provides staff mentoring and technical assistance in the areas of clinical practice and research and development projects. Assists with the orientation of new staff. Plans and implements internal staff education based on existing clinical and professional needs.

Compensation and Benefits Information:

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $36.34 to $54.50, with a median wage of $45.42/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manages information in order to improve delivery of clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates competence in technology required of the position.
    • Seeks out tools or systems to assist with completing tasks more efficiently.
    • Manipulates technology in order to effectively orient, train and monitor therapies staff in their job duties.
  • Serves as a leader in implementing policies and procedures.
    • Follows established policies and procedures and mentors therapies staff in following policies and procedures.
      • This may include: Revenue Cycle, Research, Clinical Practice Guideline, or Clinical creation, implementation, and updating as appropriate.
    • Identifies and works to effect change when policies, guidelines or procedures need to be updated.
    • Protects the confidentiality of personal health information (PHI) and monitors/mentors therapies staff in protecting PHI.
    • Models family centered care approach, mentoring staff through challenging situations.
  • Demonstrates active engagement within and outside the department.
  • Effectively engages in competency planning, development and implementation, including maintenance, to ensure clinical excellence in the department.
    • Identifies areas for new or revised competencies and provides leadership for development or implementation. 
    • Provides leadership for administering the discipline’s competency system.
    • Assists other therapists to enhance intervention skills (design and implementation of episodes of care in collaboration with the patient/family).
    • Develops and revises competencies in line with current therapy standards of care and evidence based practice, family centered planning and informed decision making.
    • Identifies new or revised treatment tools and approaches; assists in implementation when appropriate.
    • Provides therapies leadership with assessment of individual and group practice in treatment including areas of strength, weakness and opportunities for improvement.
  • Effectively assesses educational needs for professional and clinical development for therapies staff.
    • Collaboratively plans internal education with and for cross discipline audience.
    • Develops implementation plan following coursework with emphasis on utilizing clinical staff leaders and Level II staff.
    • Augments current processes and competencies to reflect course knowledge

Qualifications

Required:

  • FTE is based on manager discretion and organizational and departmental needs. The FTE requires a combination of both Clinical Educator and Clinical practice time.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience or at least 1 year of Gillette experience (PT, OT, SLP)
  • PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE/REGISTRATION
    • Occupational Therapy State License
  • Current certification in CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association) or must obtain certification within 90-days of hire.

Preferred:

  • Supervisory or project management experience
  • NBCOT strongly preferred for Occupational Therapists
  • ASHA Certification strongly preferred for Speech Therapists
  • Research experience including: use of REDcap, IRB training, completion of research, writing, and implementation of changes based on results
  • Experience with Outcomes and Clinical Practice or Best Practice Guidelines
  • Knowledge of documentation and billing requirements for therapy services

Knowledge, skills, abilities:

  • Clinical experience and current credentials in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech language pathology, or audiology
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, motivation and organization skills
  • Commitment to excellence in customer service and family centered care
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects within allotted resources and meeting time and deliverable expectations
