Girard Estate is Hiring a Director of Culture Near Philadelphia, PA

The Director of Culture at Girard College for grades 1-12 will play a crucial role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. The primary goal of this role is to proactively address behaviors and social-emotional concerns impacting instructional time and academic achievement. The DOC will be responsible for ensuring the school environments prominently promote our core values: Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, and Courage with fidelity and vibrancy.

This position reports to the Vice President of Student Experience.

Key Responsibilities:


Classroom Integration:

Collaborate with teachers to build staff capacity for enforcing school culture.
Provide real-time coaching and support to staff in maintaining high behavior standards.
Follow up with staff after Code of Conduct violations to facilitate restorative conversations and close the loop on incidents.


Behavior Management:

Be on call for level 2 behavior concerns throughout the school day.
Work directly with students to help them adjust behaviors and norms to thrive in the classroom.
Ensure all level 2 referrals are resolved and communicate effectively with students, caregivers, and teachers within 1-2 days.
Consult with the principal to determine appropriate discipline and consequences for student behavior.
Manage the Pathways to Success Program to build student SEL awareness and promote behavior change.
Refer students meeting Serious Behavioral Response (SRB) guidelines to the Elementary/Middle or High School Assistant Principals.

Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with the Assistant Principals, Academic Counselor, teachers, Success Team, and families to connect students to academic resources and develop necessary skills.
Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and reinforcement of Uniform and Cell Phone policies.

Restorative Practices:
Conduct restorative circles and conversations with students to address conflicts and behavior issues.
Lead structured SEL workshops for students grades 1-12, aligned with grade-specific trends and core values, including elements of college and career readiness grades 9-12.


School Presence:

Maintain a highly visible and present role during school hours, ensuring the school culture is inclusive and joyful.
Embody and institutionalize the schools vision for culture and the Code of Conduct, setting high expectations for all.

Family Relationship Support:
Develop and maintain positive relationships with families to support student development and success.
Facilitate family workshops and meetings to provide strategies and resources for supporting student behavior and social-emotional growth at home.
Serve as a liaison between the school and families, ensuring open and effective communication regarding student progress and behavior.
Collaborate with families to address concerns and develop individualized plans to support student success.

Event and Program Creation:
Develop and oversee events and programs that foster school culture and student engagement.

Grades 1-8
Create age-appropriate programs and events that promote SEL and core values.
Organize activities that build community and encourage positive behavior.
Develop incentive programs to recognize and reward positive behavior and achievements.
Grades 9-12
Design events and programs that prepare students for college and career readiness, aligned with core values.
Create leadership opportunities and mentorship programs to promote student engagement and responsibility.
Develop incentive programs that recognize academic and behavioral achievements, encouraging a culture of excellence.

Diversity and Inclusion:

Support and celebrate diversity within the school community.

Create and promote programs and events that recognize and celebrate cultural, ethnic, and individual diversity.

Ensure that all school activities and policies reflect the values of inclusion and equity.

Work with students, staff, and families to create an environment where all members feel valued and respected.

Education requirement: Bachelors degree or equivalent field experience 10 years.

A deep commitment to the core values of Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, and Courage.
Proven experience in education, particularly in behavior management and SEL instruction.
Strong ability to coach and support staff in real-time.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and families.
Experience in implementing and managing school-wide behavior policies and restorative practices.
Ability to be highly present and visible, maintaining a positive and inclusive school culture.
