BASIC FUNCTION
Operate a variety of equipment to create intermediate or finished liquids or powder products.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Independently operate and troubleshoot 1 or more of the following types of equipments:
    • Blender, Sifter, Mixer, Pump, Pellet Mill, Pulverizer(s), Vacuum Blender, Drum Roller, Jacketed Vessels, or Mixing Tank
  • Able to direct and instruct Utility Operators in daily functions. Take and follow direction and guidance from Leads, department and site management, and members of operations support departments, such as QA and EHS.
  • Complete machinery and equipment start-up/shut-down operations and other extra processes (i.e self-checks), as needed.
  • Prepare equipment, such as tanks, mixing tanks, blenders, vibratory sieves, pumps, hoses, etc. Clean equipment after use, following appropriate SOPs and/or supervisor direction. Complete cleaning log and co-sign with Utility Operator.
  • Bring raw material from storage or other departments (with or without forklifts), measure weight, and scan. Weigh and scan excess raw material and return to storage. Troubleshoot raw material issues, as needed.
  • Review and revise work orders with the Supervisor prior to the start of any operation.
  • Ensure accuracy of material by cross-referencing the name, code, batch, and quantity against the work-order. Report to Supervisor any discrepancies and complete troubleshooting as directed.
  • Manage and maintain department storage location, inventory controls, and records.
  • Accurately read and interpret control instruments and prepare legible and accurate records (raw material processed, product packed, self-checks, batch records, etc.) for all operations, as required. Verify records for accuracy before returning to the supervisor.
  • Load equipment with correct quantity of raw material and effectively produce materials of varying complexity (per predefined work-order and/or supervisor’s instructions) to meet specific quality standards.
  • Monitor the blending process and perform self-checks and quality testing, following appropriate SOPs and supervisor instructions. This includes, but is not limited to, order of ingredients, time of mixing, and heating temperature, as required.
  • Understand and comply with proper equipment, product, and work area sanitation policies. Ensure the work area is clean and in order during and after work shift, following appropriate SOPs and/or supervisor’s instructions.
  • Proactively identify process improvements and complete the first level of preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Take samples according to internal SOP.
  • Pack, weigh, and scan, with assistance from Utility Operator, product into appropriate packaging for intermediate use or for final shipment to customer (per customer specifications and work-order).
  • Deliver packed material to the Warehouse, per required specifications.
  • Work in accordance with all relevant requirements including, but not limited to, GMP, HACCP, FSSC22000, and internal safety and sanitation guidelines. Proactively identify and communicate safety hazards and near misses.
  • Meet targets for production rate and changeover times.
  • Identify deviations and document/communicate them per SOP. Notify management in case of emergency, safety issue, or abnormal situation.
  • Excellent attendance, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a positive approach to work performance.
  • Ability to independently train a wide range of employees on the competencies required of a Utility or Production Operator.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
  • Operate forklift.
  • Climb steps on a regular and daily basis.
  • Standing for up to 11-hour periods on a regular and daily basis.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 55 pounds unassisted on a regular and daily basis.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 285 pounds with assistance on a regular and daily, moderate basis.
  • Constant bending, twisting, and turning while lifting and operating equipment on a daily basis.
  • Reading computer screens and documents on a regular basis.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
  • Basic math, reading, writing, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Basic PC skills.
  • Ability to perform routine work assignments, multi-tasking, and follow instructions with moderate supervision; ability to work well under pressure.
  • Compliance with systems/programs similar to Naturex’s Quality, EHS, and Food Safety programs. Compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements as defined Naturex procedures/policies. Compliance with applicable 3rd party certification requirements as defined by Naturex procedures/policies.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Minimum 1 years of experience in a manufacturing environment required. Blending or Compounding experience in flavor, ingredient, food, or chemical manufacturing environment preferred
  • Minimum 1-year forklift operation experience with certification.
  • Able to lift up to 55 pounds unassisted.
