ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following list represents the primary responsibilities of a Mine Paramedic. The relative importance of these responsibilities may vary from region to region and should be discussed by each Paramedic with his/her supervisor.

Medical Duties:

• Evaluates,treats,andstabilizesroutine andurgent patients withinthescopeofpractice and standing orders established by the sponsoring physician (Paramedic), with expanded scope responsibilities

• Administeringflushotsandmaintainproperdocumentation
• RestockingofFirstAidBags
• Restock Stoke Baskets
• RestockFirst-AidKits
• Assesseachcallsituationtodeterminebestcourseofactionandappropriateprotocol.
• Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
• Developandutilizetriageskills toprovideoptimal efficiencyduringcalls.
• Providepatientcareaccordingtoclinicalprotocolsand safetyrequirements.
• Liftandmovepatientsasrequiredtoprovideoptimumcare.
• Actasteamleaderandtakeresponsibilityforscenemanagement as needed.
• Monitorandmaintain thegeneral condition of the work area, keep it clean and stocked to maintain the image of Guardian Flight and GMR.
• Muststaycurrentwithadvancedtraining,instructorcredentials,andcontinuing education.
• MustsuccessfullycompleteandremaincurrentwithMSHArequiredcourses,participate in mine rescue drills; and must maintain all mine safety policies and complete all safety training.
• Abilitytofunctionindependentlyandbeaself-starterinisolatedlocations that have poor communication and no support agencies.
• Abilityto climb a 75-foot vertical ladder with 50 lbs. of gear
