Scope of RoleThe Controller is responsible for carrying out accounting duties in an accurate and timely manner. This role will provide support and guidance across the business including the Finance, Professional Services, Field Services, and Human Resource departments. The Controller ensures that business risk and compliance is managed withing corporate guidelines and that financial transactions are processed in our accounting systems timely and accurately, enabling the business to meet reporting and processing timetables.
Functional Outcomes General Ledger & Accounting
- Month-end close and production and analysis of monthly financial accounts
- Developing and improving accounting systems
- Ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support business decision making
- Ensuring effective financial control of company assets
- Ensure GLX is compliant with all Taxation matters, including Sales Tax and Franchise Tax
- Ensure GL mapping is accurate across all systems (ERP, Payroll, Expense, etc.)
- Financial project reporting support for GLX
- Developing the Annual Plan
- Establishing and tracking departmental budgets
- Monitor and report on all project financial milestones
- Monitor and report on all project PO’s vs actuals and budget
- Margin Analysis
- Monitor and review the accuracy of all new item costs prepared by Purchasing
- Regularly check Accounting System for incorrect costs
- Ensure that users of cost information understand how costs are generated and are aware of any limitations that may affect decisions they make based on these costs
- Monitor and review all inventory adjustments monthly
- Liaise with the auditors at both interim and final audits
- Prepare necessary schedules and run the required reports
- Ensure all reconciliations are up-to-date and complete in all respects Payroll
- Manage Payroll processing
- Manage all GLX incentive plans
- Reconcile all deductions
- Validate all changes
- Maintain, Implement, Improve:
- ERP ex. QuickBooks
- Payroll mapping to ERP ex. Paycom
- Expense Management System ex. Nexonia
- Participate in accounting system enhancement projects
- Create, maintain and automate various reports as required
- Resolve and assist team members with problems incurred within the Accounting Systems
- Aid contractors and staff for general IT matters
- Update cash reconciliation spread sheet based on the daily bank statements
- Liaise with CFO for AP and Payroll matters
- Assist other Team Members with guidance and advanced problem solving
- Help upgrade and improve the department’s work procedures and accounting process
- In consultation with your manager
- Establish the most appropriate work and project related goals for you personally
- Ensure that these goals can be related to the team plan and your own developmental needs
- Break these goals down into specific, measurable, and achievable objectives for yourself
- Demonstrate a habit of making plans, taking action and learning from those plans and actions
- Work with your Manager to annually produce your Personal Development Plan and review this regularly throughout the year
- Plans approach and systematically implements process
- On a daily basis ensures priorities are clearly in line with the overall plan
- Prepares in advance and produces schedules which ensure the maximum use of time
- Follows through to ensure things are completed

- The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer
- Ensure you know evacuation procedures and the whereabouts of fire exits and fire extinguishers,
- Know who is your first aider and fire-warden in your area,
- Use Company supplied protective equipment/clothing where necessary,
- Immediately report circumstances you consider may present a hazard to yourself or others, and
- Report any accident whether minor/major
- Minimum 10 years related work experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- CPA certification
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and maintain high standards of work output
- Methodical and well-organized work habit with a high level of accuracy and close attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and show initiative and motivation as well as being a team player
- Ability to plan and allocate workload to achieve reporting and processing timetables
- Ability to learn and adapt to changing environment with relative ease
