Summary

This position is mainly responsible for sanding, prepping, and taping off vehicles for painting. In addition, this position will wet sand and buff vehicles after the refinishing process, as well as buff and polish vehicles to remove any imperfections.

Responsibilities 

  • Wet sand and buff refinished vehicles.
    • Masking, prepping, and primer mixing
    • Ability to remove imperfections from refinished surfaces with 10 micron sand paper.
    • Ability to buff with a high speed buffer to remove sand scratches and polish to original finish. 
    • Tape off windows, molding, etc. 
    • Professionally and courteously interact with other employees, customers, and truck drivers concerning any defects in finished products.
    • Buff vehicles with factory defects.
    • Maintain safe working environment, and follow all policies and procedures regarding safety.

  • Prepare panels for final refinish 
    • Remove all dust and other particles from prepared panels. Inspect panels for adherence to shop standards for preparation
    • Inspect incoming panels for properly completed body repairs and primer applications.
    • Apply abrasives and use hand and power tools in preparing panels for final refinish
    • Mask/protect any areas adjacent to panel(s) to be prepared
  • Maintain a safe working environment
    • Maintain cleanliness of all tools/equipment.
    • Follow all job related safety and health procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned 
    • Perform other job related duties as directed by supervisor

Qualifications


Skills

  • Bodywork 
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to drive both automatic and straight shift vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to verify and record numbers 17 characters in length.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D required 
  • Associates Degree preferred
  • 3 -5 years of experience in automotive industry 
  • PPG Certification preferred 
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License

Working and Environmental Conditions

This position works in a plant manufacturing/warehouse setting.

  • Exposure to loud noises from vehicles and heavy machinery
  • Comfortable operating PPG Color Machine 
  • Comfortable using hand-held scanners 
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, gases, and chemicals 
  • The position is based out of the Hueneme, CA office at a plant manufacturing/warehousing environment.
  • Communication with employees and field partners will be primarily conducted via phone and email.
