Overview?

The Data Governance Manager leads the development and adoption of practices that ensure GM Financial has sound data governance in place and functioning across all of the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

What makes an ideal candidate?

  • Lead the data governance team in defining how enterprise data is collected, used, controlled, distributed and purged
  • Partner with business groups and IT groups to understand and describe data more fully so that its value is maximized
  • Build and maintain an information inventory which will drive associated data governance processes such as data classification, information lifecycle management, data stewardship, reference data/master data management and information security risk assessment
  • Ensure that the enterprise has policies and procedures that insure that data is protected, maintained with high quality and removed it when it is no longer needed
  • Lead enterprise wide information lifecycle management (ILM), also known as records retention
  • Work with the Legal department to establish corporate wide records retention schedules and coordinate with IT and business groups
  • Work with IT groups to ensure that data purging processes are in place within internally and externally developed systems
  • Implement new technologies, such as eDiscovery systems, to manage data through Legal hold periods
  • Partner with data stakeholders to understand data more fully
  • Data stakeholders include Enterprise/Software Architects, Data Architects, DBA's, Information Security analysts, SharePoint analysts, BSA's, Risk Analysts, BI Analysts and business team members
  • Define and implement enterprise approaches for managing master data, reference data and metadata
  • Understand existing and evolving data management related rules and regulations impacting the company
  • Coordinate with relevant team members and stakeholders to define metrics, scorecards and trending reports required to monitor progress toward the data governance goals of the organization
  • Advanced knowledge of information technology systems, infrastructure and operations
  • Ability to analyze data using Excel for reporting and data mining purposes
  • Ability to effectively lead, organize, and supervise
  • Advanced experience with data visualization concepts and tools
Qualifications:

Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred
  • 10 years of related experience preferred
