ResponsibilitiesOverviewThe Data Governance Program Lead partners with business and technical stakeholders to increase data literacy, provide guidance on information-related issues, and ensure the organization has the appropriate governance in place related to the management and usage of business information. This role is expected to take an active leadership role in the development and refinement of GMF Data Governance and Enablement strategy and implementation. It is responsible for the coordination of Data Governance and Enablement initiatives and the identification of new opportunities to enhance the recognized value of Data Governance and Enablement within the organization.

  • Assist in the development of GMF Data Governance and Enablement strategy
  • Support the definition of business data ownership and stewardship across the enterprise
  • As a key member of the Data Governance and Enablement team, you will be collaborating and consulting with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior functional managers, executives, and Data Stewards to ensure the policies are made a reality through the governance and stewardship program
  • Execute the Data Citizenship and Stewardship program and operating framework, with a focus on data quality improvement, data credibility and adoption of enterprise data assets through modifications of organizational behavior, policies, standards, and processes. Support the Stewardship program by expanding the impact of data governance across the enterprise and promote data-centric approach to manage data as an asset
  • Define and mature the measurements and KPIs used to evaluate the effectiveness of enterprise data governance efforts organization wide
  • Identify new opportunities to enhance the value of the organization’s information
  • Lead Data Governance and Enablement strategic initiatives to address information-related pain points
  • Lead the enterprise data stewardship team to drive data governance adoption, working with data stewards across lines of business to embed governance practices and enhance data-driven culture
  • Act as a data management SME, consulting with stakeholders to improve data governance literacy, advance data maturity, and develop strategic data initiatives
  • Collaborate with domain data leaders to address data issues and leverage opportunities, ensuring data governance frameworks are in line with enterprise goals and regulatory standard
  • Evaluate and refine team and program performance through feedback from business and technology partners, using insights to optimize data governance and management processes
  • Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional teams, encouraging a collaborative atmosphere, and partner with various stakeholders to facilitate change and enhance data governance adoption
  • Analyze existing data governance activities and recommend enhancements to align with GMF policies and standards
  • Identify data governance process gaps and work with stakeholders to design solutions to address them
  • Recommend and develop data governance policies and standards organization-wide
  • Participate in GMF policy and standard development and review
  • Assist in the development and delivery of data literacy Enablement education for the GMF enterprise
  • Apply agile values and principles, and help drive the team and organization to higher levels of agile maturity
  • Facilitate various Scrum and/or Kanban activities such as: Daily Scrum, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives
  • Work closely with Product Owners to ensure product backlog is visible and prioritized towards business value
QualificationsExperience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent work experience required
  • 5-7 years of experience in a technical or analytical role required
  • 2-3 years of experience in a formal Data Governance role required
  • 2-3 years of experience in an organizational leadership role preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of data management and data governance principles, implementations, and latest industry trends
  • Record of handling multiple business stakeholders, including actively engaging and aligning with enterprise senior leadership to drive data governance initiatives and strategies in line with the overall organizational goals
  • Working knowledge of various data storage services, including relational databases, content management repositories, shared file systems, etc
  • Working knowledge of various information repository types, including metadata, CMDB, business glossary, etc (Informatica CDGC or Atlan is a plus)
  • Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Azure or AWS
  • Ability to manage business and technical relationships, and ensure effective communication between them
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation and models, including software and database specifications
  • Ability to lead meetings with various stakeholders and SMEs, promote vision, build consensus and guide to decisions
  • Ability to elicit requirements from stakeholders, design high-level solutions to address business or technical issues, and guide implementation to completion
  • Effectively lead data steward and owner communities and forums that identify risks and drive control mitigation with Data Owners and Stewards
  • Drive the analysis and resolution of data governance issues (e.g., data ownership and system of record determination, coherent usage) in partnership with data owners, stewards and custodians in LOB and Data Product teams in alignment with standards and best practices.
  • Define and mature the measurements and KPIs used to evaluate the effectiveness of enterprise data governance efforts organization wide.
