JOB
General Nature of Duties: Directs, oversees and implements Health Department external and internal communications, with a strong emphasis on public relations and marketing. Website and social media management are important, as well as creative approaches to the design and dissemination of health messaging. Functions as Public Information Officer/Risk Communicator during emergency planning and emergency response activities. Supervises Communications Department staff in support of all responsibilities.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Specific Responsibilities and Other Duties as Assigned: Lead GNR’s public relations efforts to enhance image branding and reputation.Work closely with marketing operations.Maintain budgetary oversight of marketing and communications.Work closely with other GNR directors, subject matter experts, and program staff to create and promote the health department’s identity and mission.Manage media relations and respond to inquiries from the press including reporters and/or journalists in a timely and appropriate manner with appropriate input from key staff, leadership and subject matter experts.Manage media relations including pitching stories and responding to inquiries from reporters and/or journalists.Provide leadership counsel regarding media matters and public relations.Develop and implement data-driven public relations strategies that align with GNR’s overall goals and objectives.Create and lead public relations content across a broad array of channels including press releases, media advisories, website updates, and GNR statements/quotes.Serve as GNR’s point-of-contact for briefings, events and other general public-facing opportunities.Actively track and report data findings on news, trends, activities, competitive practices, inquiries and client surveys to identify opportunities to better position GNR.Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to ensure consistency in messaging and branding.Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders including other district communication directors, thought leaders, influencers, partners, press/media contacts and clients.Monitor, analyze and report on key metrics related to relational activities including media coverage, sentiment and influence.Promote and attend special events/functions as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to report on key metrics and insights to leaders.Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities simultaneously.Knowledge of crisis and critical communication best practices.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface across all levels of GNR.Highly organized and detail-oriented.Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.Strong service and support orientation.An enthusiastic positive team player who can support and serve those around them.
