Overview

Position Summary

The Language Program Manager is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s language revitalization programs. This role requires a strong understanding of Lingít language, culture, and communities, as well as experience in program management, curriculum development, and community engagement.

Preference will be given to Alaska Natives and/or American Indian applicants.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in linguistics, Indigenous studies, Indigenous language, education, or related field. Eight years of direct work experience may substitute.
  • Experience in Indigenous language revitalization or program management.
  • Strong understanding of Lingít language, culture, and communities.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in computer software and language documentation tools
  • Position will be exposed to multiple allergens including cedar and wool (sheep and mountain goat).
  • Must be willing to travel to local and regional events via plane, car, ferry, etc. as needed
  • Needs a valid AK driver's license

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in linguistics, education, or related field.
  • Fluency in Lingít language.
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.
  • Experience in Lingít language revitalization or program management.
  • Grant writing and fundraising experience

The salary for this position is $85,000 DOE

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive language revitalization programs aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Oversee program budget development, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise language program staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Lingít communities, Elders, and language experts.
  • Develop and implement curriculum and teaching materials for language learners of all ages.
  • Coordinate language documentation and preservation projects.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
  • Secure funding for language programs through grant writing and fundraising.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, workshops, and community events.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate language revitalization efforts into the organization's overall mission and programming
