Job Position: Transportation Planner
Target Pay Range: $70,000-$85,000/year, depending on level of relevant experience and qualifications
Employment Classification: Full-Time
Overview:
As a Transportation Planner, you will play a crucial role in facilitating transportation operations in our rapidly growing domestic and international distribution networks. You will play a key role in ensuring the lowest cost, highest performing carriers are selected for each shipment. Leveraging our Transportation Management System (TMS), you will maintain shipment visibility and manage exceptions like service failures or customer rejections. You will also familiarize yourself with the Company’s order-to-cash cycle and work with various departments such as Warehouse and Accounting to ensure supporting documentation and relevant reporting is properly handled.
To succeed in this role, you should possess a thorough understanding of transportation planning and routing shipments. Proficiency in working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) is a must, and experience with managing carrier/broker relationships will be a great benefit. The ability to intuitively leverage freight data and transform large datasets to tell a story will also be beneficial.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensures shipments are planned efficiently and at best cost, taking the initiative towards selecting the best carrier for each load
• Optimizes multi-stop routes effectively with multiple factors in consideration, including expiration dates and customer appointments
• Builds relationships with carriers/brokers and drives excellence through continuous scorecard monitoring and upholding the company’s service expectations
• Holds carriers/brokers accountable for uploading and emailing documentation to facilitate the invoicing process, such as PODs, accessorial charge receipts, etc.
• Ensures check calls are completed on all shipments to maintain accurate load tracking information
• Promptly addresses service failures, shortages/overages, customer rejections, and any other shipment exceptions within the TMS and ensures thorough documentation and communication to relevant parties
• Participates in continuous improvement events, helping build more robust and efficient processes within the Logistics department
• Owns freight settlement data accuracy for all shipments managed, methodically reviewing invoiced charges and handling discrepancies between planned versus actual shipment costs
• Leverages freight spend and shipment volume data to make intelligent planning decisions and to drive competition with carrier network
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
• 2-3 years of experience in a logistics or transportation planning role.
• Experience working with a Transportation Management System (TMS) is required.
• Experience building and optimizing routes with multiple criteria strongly preferred.
• ERP experience is required, preferably within food or beverage manufacturing.
• Experience working with cold chain logistics is preferred.
• Strong analytical capabilities.
• Data visualization experience is a plus (Looker is preferred).
• SQL experience is preferred.
