About Goldman Sachs Global Marketing

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Led by the firm's first Chief Marketing Officer, the Global Marketing function at Goldman Sachs is a unified horizontal organization, having come together to codify a business-critical function seen as core to delivering value and growth for the firm. The organization consists of a number of core COEs (sitting centrally in the Executive Office) in areas such as Brand Marketing and Content, as well as integrated marketing groups sitting in each of our key revenue businesses. Together, this team collaborates on a scaled and consistent approach to marketing the brand and its offerings. Our mission is to be a demonstrable force multiplier for the businesses we serve, focused on protecting the firm's reputation while adding value as an incremental distribution channel for commercial priorities.

The COO Team within Global Marketing is responsible for setting the direction for the horizontal function, spanning development of annual business planning, establishing KPIs, managing firmwide marketing spend, and leading initiatives around communications, culture, and talent; as well as partnering with the CMO on top-priority initiatives. The COO team drives collaboration across the brand and revenue division marketing teams, ensuring aligned "One GS" strategies and executional excellence.

Role Summary

This Associate will play a key role on the COO team, with primary responsibilities for function-wide communications, culture-related programming, and general business planning spanning strategy and budget management. The role will work closely with marketing leadership in crafting regular internal communications, scripting talking points for panels and internal town halls, and other presentations. This will require liaising with colleagues across the marketing organization to ensure communications connect the strategic threads and commercial priorities across the firm, and communicate key wins, progress, and measurement against the function's goals. The role will also support the COO team's business planning efforts, and general management of the function, including shaping the go-forward strategy for Global Marketing's culture and talent initiatives.

This role will be most successfully played by someone who is:
  • An adaptable and rangy professional, with related chief of staff / COO team functional experience, adept at tackling a range of tasks in any given day
  • A strong writer and communicator, with a curious mindset for locating and understanding the best case studies and "stories" from around Global Marketing
  • A proactive and flexible thinker, able to anticipate senior stakeholder needs
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills and positive energy who wants to help set the tone and culture for a firmwide function
  • A detail-oriented colleague, who values the importance of operational excellence and thoughtful process, and is eager to contribute to the running of a complex, firmwide organization
Key Responsibilities
  • Write weekly internal memos and other communications in close collaboration with senior marketing leaders
  • Partner across Global Marketing to coordinate briefers and talking points for internal events, presentations, senior-level meetings, and functional communications
  • Understand the firm's divisions and marketing's major initiatives, including the firm's commercial impact and strategy, in order to draft effective and strategic copy and other content
  • Develop and implement improved processes for marketing communications and culture programming, with an aim to increase efficiency, quality, and timeliness
  • Contribute to the forward strategy for the marketing communications and culture programming portfolio as a whole, shaping and leading projects focused on making Global Marketing a great place to work
  • Work as an integrated member of the marketing COO team, plugging into strategic and operations projects (e.g. case studies, metrics dashboard, annual strategy setting) as well as special projects and FW initiatives that fall within the wide-ranging remit of the COO team
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in chief of staff/COO teams; and/or internal communications, executive communications, or management and strategy
  • An understanding of marketing as a function and industry, and/or experience in financial services as a sector
  • Strong editorial judgment, writing skills and ultra-high attention to detail
  • Creative mindset, intellectually curious and ability to connect the dots strategically to illuminate the firm's thinking in accessible, clever ways
  • Understanding of fundamental financial services business terms and acumen
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
