What We Do

Goldman Sachs' Strats business unit is a world leader in developing quantitative models and technologies to solve complex business problems. Resource Management Strats sits within the firm's Global Markets Division and works directly with sales and trading desks to provide commercial solutions in a wide range of areas.

Your Impact

As a Strat on the Resource Management desk, you'll work across four main areas. First, working with our GMD Capital Management team and every business across the Division to optimize our capital footprint in light of industry regulation. Second, partnering with our GMD Counterparty Risk Management team to develop models for trading with our clients that ensure prudential thought in client exposures. Third, in conjunction with our GMD Liquidity Management and GMD Cross Asset Funding teams, you'll build models that will allow us to optimize our collateral and margin deployments for maximum efficiency and returns. Fourth, partnering across business, engineering and operations to drive BCE (brokerage, clearance, exchange) cost optimization across the Division.

Specifically, Margin including CCR (Counterparty Credit Risk) and SIMM, is a significant area of focus for the firm and regulators. In 2022/23, we made significant enhancements that improved our counterparty credit risk measurement and monitoring capabilities, including the implementation of the CCR Monitor (a first line-of-defense repository to ensure comprehensive and timely risk identification) with full integration into supervisory infrastructure and the development of new stress test methodologies and shortfall calculation at the counterparty-level. The firm continued to invest in CCR uplift, improving data quality, ensuring sustainability, and enhancing infrastructure. In 2024, the firm will continue to focus on Margin as a broader topic.

Responsibilities

As a member of this team, you will be expected to have an understanding of all the products and derivatives the Global Markets business trades. You will work on developing large scale systems, building risk, capital and optimization models, and creating data driven prediction models optimization. You will be working directly with traders on building tools enabling them to price trades more precisely and optimize resources.

An ideal candidate would have strong quantitative and technical problem solving skills, drive to investigate and learn new ideas, and good judgement to deliver quick yet robust solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

• Strong academic background in a relevant STEM field (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Mathematics)
• Strong analytical and programming skills (Java, C , Python)
• Strong interpersonal/communication skills
• Ability to focus both on details and on the big picture, as requested
• Ability to work in a dynamic and fast- paced environment and deliver accurate results quickly
• Ability to solve problems and to explain underlying ideas

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge and understanding of financial markets, financial modeling, a quantitative understanding of probability

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$225000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
