Position Summary:
A monitor technician, also known as a cardiovascular technologist, is responsible for observing and analyzing the heart monitors attached to patients in a hospital. This role involves working with electrocardiogram waveforms and computer software to analyze the patient’s heart status, identify irregularities, and promptly communicate any issues to doctors or nurses. Monitor technician positions are commonly found in hospitals, particularly in intensive care and surgical units.
Education:
- High school graduation or equivalent, and successful completion of a basic EKG course or proficiency test. Advanced EKG courses are preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:
- Basic Life Support certification
- Successful completion of a Basic EKG course
- Technical training from a vocational college
Minimum Experience:
- Preferably 1 year of relevant experience.
