Description

General Summary: Oversees Goodwill South Central WI daily accounting operations, including the accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions. Supports the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and helps guide the company's strategic financial decisions. This role is integral to the financial health of the organization. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll. 
  • Partner with the Talent Team to recruit, interview, hire, and train direct reports. 
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the overall accounting functions of Goodwill SCWI, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements. 
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, providing key insights and recommendations to the executive team and stakeholders. 
  • Maintain effective financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and minimize risk. 
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial results. 
  • Support the annual budget preparation, with CFO, work closely with department heads to align financial plans with strategic goals.
  • Advise on financial analysis and variance analysis related to trends, risks, and opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth. 
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure,
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, oversee tax filings, and support CFO during the annual audit process. 
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activities to maintain accurate financial records. 
  • Develop and maintain financial performance metrics and KPIs to measure and support CFO to track the company's financial health and performance. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business decisions, and other financial initiatives. 
  • Support CFO to provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning, business development, and investment decisions. 
  • Oversee all financial, project and grants accounts, ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant period. 
  • Collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants. 
  • Continuously assess and improve financial processes, systems, and reporting to enhance efficiency and accuracy. 
  • Mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, growth, and continuous improvement. 

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance; a master's degree or CPA preferred. 
  • 5 years controller experience, or senior finance leadership role. 
  • 3 years supervisory experience showing exceptional leadership and team management. 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS). 
  • Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software and Martus Solutions, or similar cloud-based GL and budgeting systems. 
  • Experience with Yardi software, affordable housing/HUD projects, and grant programs a plus.
