Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant I performs a variety of professional level accounting duties. These duties consist of, but are not limited to, preparing, maintaining, analyzing, and reconciling financial transactions and reports. This position works cooperatively with all staff and acts responsibly with confidential and proprietary information.

This position is a full time, non-exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 403(b) retirement plan; paid Holidays, Sick and Vacation time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with month-end close by preparing journal entries for financial activity throughout the month such as sales and e-commerce revenue, cost of goods sold, and other bank activity.
  • Assists during monthly financial review by reviewing and correcting journal entries when needed.
  • Calculates and prepares accruals for outstanding Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Responsible for filing welfare exemption applications.
  • Monitors, reconciles, and prepares unclaimed property filings.
  • Keeps track of fixed assets and associated depreciation schedules on organization’s asset management software.
  • Maintains schedule for business licenses and completes annual renewal applications for all locations.
  • Analyzes and reconciles intercompany activity.
  • Assists with quarterly audits for Corporate Compliance.
  • Records monthly sales tax and files quarterly returns.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with all Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada policies, procedures, CARF standards, financial, regulatory, safety and security regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic Qualifications of the Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify problems, gather related information from diverse resources, analyze complex data, and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated mathematical skills to calculate and analyze complex financial formulas.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse population of staff, coworkers and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Must not present a direct threat to the safety and health of self, others or property.
  • No record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates an ongoing tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.
  • Must pass a drug screening and maintain compliance with the organization’s drug and alcohol policy.
  • Must pass a background screening and maintain compliance with the organization’s associated polices.
  • Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.

  • Proficient with Oracle NetSuite software is preferred.

Work environment is usually hectic/fast-paced with frequent short deadlines and instances of unusual situations. Travel to various company locations may be required.
