Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona is Hiring an Assistant Manager - Operations - Maryland Near Frederick, MD

Our regional headquarters are located in beautiful Frederick Maryland where the region is currently comprised of 9 retail stores, 2 warehouse locations and has roughly 300 employees. We hope to expand our retail footprint and believe we have capacity for upwards of 15-20 stores within our territory.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a smaller region, but have the support and infrastructure of one of the largest Goodwill’s in the network, Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA). After the merger in 2020, Goodwill of Monocacy Valley has been able to grow retail revenue and stabilize operations with the support of GCNA’s innovative best practices.

Position Description: Assists the Manager of Maryland Warehouse Operations in all areas of Warehouse, Transportation. Leads and directs the team responsible for coordination of transportation, storage, or distribution of donated merchandise for Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) and its affiliated entities through scheduling and dispatching Leads, Truck Drivers, and Forklift Operators. Analyzes daily and weekly reporting to understand trends and Team Member performance. Assists in team development, training, and administrative duties. Must have strong adherence to all safety policies and ensures the wearing of all required personal protective equipment at all times. Provides assistance with all DOT regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides feedback to the Manager of Maryland Warehouse Operations on day-to-day operations in an effort to maintain and improve business and resolve problems.
  • Assists with executing department operations plan to achieve required targeted growth in daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for profit and revenue.
  • Assists with monitoring and recording product levels daily to achieve bottom line in sales budget against targets.
  • Manages and adheres to assigned budget.
  • Ensures that inventory distribution and organization are as efficient as possible.
  • Builds and manages strong working relationships with customers, vendors, and retail team maintaining standards of excellent customer service.
  • Ensures warehouse and equipment such as trucks and forklifts are clean, well-kept and reflects the Goodwill brand appropriately.
  • Ensures that Team Members are operating per company standards and procedures relating to Security, Health and Safety; influences any changes necessary to meet statutory requirements, ensuring minimum risk to Team Members and the business.
  • Ensures that all transportation department driving regulations are adhered to all times.
  • Maintains the day-to-day operations of the Transportation departments including managing and meeting Team Member and customer needs.
  • Communicates with retail partners on status of equipment, product, and general information.
  • Coordinates and effectively communicates with Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona (GCNA) departments.
  • Makes decisions on matters relating to the day-to-day operation within his/her defined work area.
  • Prepares daily work and run schedules in Transportation, determining the types or amounts of resources required to ensure daily work is completed. This includes but is not limited to equipment, vehicles, materials, and personnel.
  • Ensures standards for quality services are met, conducts quality assurance checks, and develops strategies for improvement in conjunction with the Manager of Maryland Warehouse Operations.
  • Responsible for following and ensuring all safety rules are complied with and appropriate safety equipment is used. Immediately acts and/or reports any unsafe or potential hazards to the Manager of Maryland Warehouse Operations.
  • As needed, operates a forklift and maintains forklift certification.
  • May occasionally need to drive to various company locations or meet up with a driver in need of assistance.
  • Partners with support areas (Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, etc.) to further business goals and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assists with building a high-performing team and creating a culture of safety.
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members with assistance from the Manager of Operations.

  • Plays critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • 1-2 years’ work experience in Retail Management, preferably thrift
  • Experience with a sit down Forklift, maintains a forklift certification
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently
  • Valid drivers' license and clean MVR
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position
