Goucher College is Hiring a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Near Towson, MD
Job Description: Goucher College's Biological Sciences program invites applications for a non-tenure-track position as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences with a one-year, ten-month contract to start in August 2024. We are looking for a broadly trained biologist with experience in organismal biology who could contribute to 100- and 200-level courses, lab components of a post-bac pre-med curriculum that covers introductory biology (molecular through organismal biology). Depending on the candidate's area of expertise, there are opportunities to teach nutrition or other non-major courses as well. This position includes 24 credits of teaching per academic year. College committee service work, extramural funding, and research are not required components of this position. The biological sciences program aims to provide a broad training in the biological sciences for our students who pursue teaching, non-profit, research, health, and other graduate careers. We have development of writing and laboratory skills scaffolded and assessed throughout our curriculum. We recently redesigned our introductory biology courses by employing best practices that have been shown to engage and retain students, particularly students from first-generation or under-represented minority backgrounds. Course-based undergraduate research experiences are infused in the curriculum from the first semester of the curriculum. Additionally, we provide biology coursework to Goucher's long-running post-bac pre-medical program. Qualifications: Required: ABD or Ph.D in Biology or related field at the time of hiring. Preferred: Ph.D; Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
