Job SummaryCentury-old, family-owned manufacturing company is in search of a Foundry Engineer. The Foundry Engineer is responsible for overseeing and improving the casting process in a foundry, ensuring the production of high-quality metal castings. This role involves designing and developing new casting processes, troubleshooting production issues, and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs. The Foundry Engineer works closely with other departments, including production, quality control, and maintenance, to ensure seamless operations and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Process Design and Development:
    • Design and develop new casting processes and methods.
    • Create and modify casting patterns and molds.
    • Develop and optimize gating and riser systems for efficient metal flow and solidification.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure that castings meet quality standards and specifications.
    • Conduct root cause analysis of casting defects and implement corrective actions.
    • Work with the quality control team to develop and maintain quality assurance procedures.
  • Production Support:
    • Provide technical support to the production team to resolve process-related issues.
    • Monitor and analyze production data to identify areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement process control plans to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance casting processes and reduce waste.
    • Implement lean manufacturing techniques to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in foundry technology.
  • Tooling and Equipment:
    • Design and procure tooling, equipment, and materials needed for casting processes.
    • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of foundry equipment.
    • Ensure proper documentation and storage of tooling and patterns.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards in the foundry.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to prevent accidents.
    • Ensure environmental regulations are followed in the handling and disposal of foundry materials.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and maintenance.
    • Communicate technical information effectively to various stakeholders.
    • Train and mentor foundry staff on best practices and new technologies.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3-5 years of experience in foundry engineering or a related role.
    • Experience with casting processes such as sand casting, die casting, or investment casting.
