Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Prescription Assistance Manager
Supervision Responsibilities: No
Essential Role: Assists clinic by providing complete patient care through distribution of sample medication provided by pharmaceutical companies or other agencies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Establishes and maintains inventory control of all prescription samples and over-the-counter medications as well as patient-specific medication provided by patient assistance programs.
- Completes appropriate forms and maintains appropriate logs or paperwork for tracking prescription samples, over-the-counter medication, and patient assistance program medications.
- Responsible for contacting drug companies to obtain refill and/or new prescription approvals within patient qualification guidelines.
- Utilizes financial information including income and insurance/Medicaid status to assist patients with qualification for drug assistance programs.
- Returns or receives patient phone calls during office hours or meets with patients in the office to coordinate applications or pick-up of pharmaceutical samples or patient assistance program medications.
- Follows all State and Federal guidelines on pharmaceutical guidelines and procedures.
- Maintains communication with Pharmaceutical Representatives. Coordinates representative appointments with Medical Clinic Director and providers as appropriate.
- Assists in inventory maintenance; provides guidance to other staff on donation of over-the-counter medication.
- Maintains and stocks forms and supplies as needed.
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Pharmacy Tech certification preferred
- One-year experience in related field (ex. pharmacy technician) preferred.
- Medical terminology preferred.
- Experience in public health preferred.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment, including computers, copiers, and other standard office equipment.
- Ability to work independently, organize, monitor, and adjust work as necessary to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
- Able to provide innovative input into the development of the office and its processes.
- Ability to strongly embrace and personify the mission and values of GraceMed with socio-economic and cultural sensitivity in mind.
- Must display good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to professionally receive and follow oral instructions.
- Compassion for patients, family members, and others; along with a nurturing spirit to provide care during stressful situations.
Working Conditions:Medical office setting. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Bending, stooping, and lifting (up to 50lbs.) may be required. Interaction with physicians, patients and other office personnel. May involve contact with angry, upset or ill persons. May involve potential exposure to blood and body fluids and other hazardous substances. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with computer. Must have auditory acuity to handle phone calls.
