Well, we pump peanut butter into your jar, and the oil in your car. We glue the soles of your shoes, the glass in your windows and the screen on your phone. Job Purpose

Graco is seeking a Product Safety and Compliance Engineering Manager who will be responsible for leading our corporate program of product compliance and independent (third party) approval. This role involves partnering with Graco’s worldwide leadership and division engineering clients to ensure that our products meet all necessary safety, health and environmental requirements throughout their lifecycle, from design and development to manufacturing and market release. A successful candidate will lead a team of product safety engineers who effectively partner and advise designers and engineers, assist in the education and training necessary to prevent related accidents, and promote safe design and use of Graco products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of safety and compliance engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and robust client engagement and support.
  • Develop and support cohesive, multi-disciplinary teams between the corporate product safety and supported Graco divisions, developing a “we’re in it together" culture.
  • Monitor new and updated product compliance requirements from around the world and provide guidance to the divisions on how these requirements apply to Graco products.
  • Assist Design Centers in developing compliance strategies, addressing safety concerns, implementing plans to acquire approvals and correcting non-compliance findings of regulatory and approval agency inspections.
  • Review and approve design changes, safety plans and release to sale for a broad range (applications within all divisions) of new and standard products.
  • Develop procedures to be used by Design and Manufacturing Centers in obtaining and maintaining product approvals and safety.
  • Facilitate product safety education and training through hazard analysis, safety planning and product warning literature.
  • Acquire, interpret and communicate to cognizant Design Centers relevant regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Maintain an internal library of current US and International regulations, standards and product approval laboratories and Graco product certifications.
  • Represent the corporation in trade organizations and in the development of external standards related to product and application safety regulations through participation on advisory committees.
  • Provide technical consultation for a broad range (applications within all divisions) of Graco products in product liability defense including accident investigation and equipment identification.
  • Act as either a factual witness (by affidavit, by deposition, etc.) or opinion witness covering a broad range (applications within all divisions) of products and applications when needed for trial preparation or participation at trial.
  • Mentor Product Safety/Compliance Engineer in the fundamentals of product liability proceedings and imparts knowledge regarding applications within all divisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
  • 10 years’ experience in product development or safety engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant safety and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support compliance and safety activities

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in giving depositions and testifying in legal proceedings
