Full time, day shiftGeneral work hours: Monday – Friday, on-call every 4th weekend

Overview: The Hematology/Oncology Clinical Pharmacist Specialist will have a primary focus in 
hematology and is an integral member of the hematology team. In addition to providing direct patient 
care, the Clinical Specialist will work closely with the multidisciplinary care team including physicians, 
mid-level providers, nurses, social workers, and case managers to optimize medication management and 
clinical outcomes for patients in a financially responsible manner. The Clinical Specialist will also be 
involved in implementing investigational drug research, Heme/Onc medication safety process 
improvements, as well as provide oversight of medication management policies and procedures. 

Essential Job Functions 
 Knowledge and Use of Grady Health System and Departmental Policies and Procedures: 
Demonstrates ability to apply policies and procedures involving drug information, rational drug 
therapy assurance, and/or research in patient care situations. Collaborates with other Heme/Onc 
Clinical Specialists and Epic team to build and validate Beacon treatment plans. Actively 
participates in departmental committees where applicable policies and procedures are 
implemented/reviewed/revised.
 Drug Related Problem Identification and Resolution, Medication Orders: Demonstrates efficiency 
in medication order process including order entry, review and verification. Intervenes in 
situations where a therapeutic alternative requires a detailed understanding of disease state 
treatment options and supportive care management. Identifies areas for patient care quality 
improvement, develops/implements/revises protocols or guidelines, and documents impact.
 Drug Information Retrieval, Interpretation, and Communication: Plays integral role on the 
multidisciplinary service by acting as the drug information resource on the team. Researches, 
answers and applies routine and complex drug information questions to patient cases.
Selects and applies relevant drug literature to specific patient cases. Conveys responses to drug 
information questions in appropriate depth, scope and time frame. 
 Pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamic Knowledge, Patient Assessment, Intervention & 
Communication Skills: Evaluates drug therapy and utilizes pharmacotherapy principles and 
protocols to recommend therapy initiation and changes when appropriate. Able to use strong 
critical thinking skills to interpret and translate information for use in patients with cancer 
and/or benign hematologic disease states.
 Professional Development & Interactions: Represents and actively participates on committees 
within the pharmacy department, Cancer Center and/or hospital. Maintains ACLS certification 
and demonstrates ability to participate in codes commensurate with level of training.
 Educational Activities and Effectiveness and Scholarly Achievements: 
Serves as a clinical rotation preceptor for residents, students, and other trainees. Effectively 
precepts trainee-required experiences including research projects, formal seminar/case 
presentations, and medication use evaluations.
Provides education to patients and family members, other healthcare professionals, pharmacy 
students, and residents. 
 Supervision & Leadership Skills: Assists in development and achievement of departmental 
patient care goals. Actively participate in local, state and/or national Heme/Onc 
organizations and/or committees.

Qualifications
 Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of Pharmacy.
 Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 and PGY-2 residency in Oncology. 
 Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Oncology Board Certification (BCOP) or must be obtained 
within one year of employment.
 Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Georgia, or eligible for licensure within 120 days through 
reciprocity or exam.
 Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association 
requirement.
 Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within one year of hire. 
 Must be able to handle multiple assignments, work flexible hours, and communicate with 
technical personnel and end users in a positive manner. 
 Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.
 Proven track record of critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
 Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
 EPIC and Beacon proficiency preferred.
