GRAND FORKS PUBLIC SCHOOLS is Hiring a K-8 Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) Educator Near Grand Forks, ND

JOB DESCRIPTION

Education: Bachelors’ degree in Teaching (elementary or secondary) preferred. Counseling, Social Work or other related human service professional licensure eligible to apply.

Job Summary: The Therapeutic Learning Center (TLC) is a transitional off-campus medical setting designed to serve students with significant emerging or identified mental health disorders. Qualifying students will receive core educational services as a portion of their daytime programming which also includes a variety of individual and group therapies, social-emotional skill development, and cognitive behavioral support. The TLC educator’s primary job is to create and teach academic lessons to individual students and small age band groups attending the TLC. Academics will focus around core coursework. TLC educators will also be an active member of student care teams and collaborate closely with medical and therapeutic professionals throughout the day around collective student goals and services.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Establish and maintain trusting, collaborative, professional relationships with all students and student care team members.
  • Create and deliver small group and/or individual academic lessons that align with core content area standards and student needs. Assess and document academic progress.
  • Provide strengths-based feedback and coaching to build student efficacy.
  • Communicate with teachers, counselors, and administrators from students’ main campus to ensure instructional alignment, behavioral updates, and progress reports are captured.
  • Create, and record interventions-based data, and communicate student progress to families and case managers as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and trauma-informed practices in daily interactions.
  • Contribute to a safe and healthy work and learning culture at the Therapeutic Learning Center.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and the highest ethical standards.
  • Participate in district training and initiatives as appropriate.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. Ability to manage emotions and provide emotional support during stressful circumstances.

Evaluation: Written evaluation by the Associate Superintendent or designee

A teaching contract of 188 days.
