Grand Forks is Hiring a Network Services Coordinator Near Grand Forks, ND

Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Information Systems, or related field.

Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years work experience directly related to managing the infrastructure of a Network. Can demonstrate an understanding of how to manage, maintain and troubleshoot all networking systems that support the Grand Forks Public Schools Network. Prefer minimum of 2 years work experience in the Grand Forks Public Schools Technology Department.

Job Goal: Demonstrates the ability to understand the innerworkings of how each network system moves, stores, filters, controls, backs up and secures all data for the Grand Forks Public Schools. Understands how to maintain, upgrade and replace end of life networking devices that support the movement of data for the Grand Forks Public Schools.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Understands the importance of following in detail the Technology Department mission statement.
  2. Serves as the point person in designing and maintaining the entire Grand Forks Public Schools network infrastructure.
  3. Has a detailed understanding for the overall design of the network infrastructure, IP addressing structure, subnet addressing and Vlan identification.
  4. Monitors frequently the health and security of all network infrastructure. Servers, Data Management System, Backup and Recovery System, Wireless network, IP and Analog phone system, Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching infrastructure, Security camera system.
  5. Has a detailed understanding of all outside vendor access into the Grand Forks Public Schools network.
  6. Can identify the location of all data closets and phone Demarc locations throughout the GFPS district. Works with the IT director on the maintenance, upgrading and identification of inventory in each wiring closet location.
  7. Understands network traffic flow both within each building location and the data connection to the network backbone infrastructure.
  8. Understands in detail how the major network infrastructure systems are connected in each GFPS building. (Network switching, Phone system, including the demarcation and all dedicated analog phone lines connected to fire panels, 911, fax machines, building intercom system, wireless infrastructure and security cameras)
  9. Works with the Director of Technology in developing a detailed plan for securing, maintaining, monitoring, upgrading, and replacing network infrastructure.
  10. Develops problem solving skills that help identify network infrastructure issues and implements the necessary steps needed in finding a timely solution.
  11. Works with IT vendors and engineers to solve complex problems affecting network infrastructure systems.
  12. Provides IT software and networking support for all Grand Forks Public Schools department directors in the implementation of new projects needing network access.
  13. Provides networking and training support to IT staff when needed.
  14. Identifies the network infrastructure equipment needs and licensing for the annual E-Rate budget process. Works with the Director of Technology and state staff on the submission of the E-Rate Form 470, 471, 472, 486 forms.
  15. Assists the Director of Technology in the installation, design and training plan for implementing major systems involving all Grand Forks Public School district employees. (Phone system, Security camera system)
  16. Understanding for the different types of data management systems that affect staff, classified staff and students. Network service coordinators understands how staff, classified staff and students are imported into the proper management system locations and given the privileges needed to function at all daily activities. Data management systems include, Consensus, Rapid Identity, Active Directory, Ivisions, Blackboard Connect, Google Admin Console, Library, Child Nutrition and Lightspeed Relay.

Knowledge Required:

  1. Principles and practices of technology management, system development and system integration in an educational environment.
  2. Troubleshooting network infrastructure issues and determining the entities involved in the solution process.
  3. The age and function of the different network infrastructure systems and can plan for the optimal maintenance, upgrade and replacement schedule.
  4. New technologies available that can better fit into the GFPS curriculum initiatives.
  5. Troubleshooting techniques, security, subnetting, device configuration, Server OS applications.
  6. User management and security control for the different student and staff information systems.
  7. The distribution and management of all devices connected to the network.
  8. Organizational techniques used to manage user login privileges, file access control and remote network access through the Virtual Private Network.
  9. Planning and managing the implementation of projects.
  10. The importance of network device documentation.
  11. Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions at work site.
  12. Replacement, movement and collection process of the device inventory.

Skills Required:

  1. Effectively using verbal and written communication when collaborating with IT staff.
  2. Understanding the importance of maintaining a good working relationship with all IT staff members.
  3. Identifying the skills in other IT staff members and can plan projects accordingly.
  4. Analyzing network issues and using the techniques necessary in finding a solution.
  5. Using good judgement in understanding the proper uses of technology in an educational environment.
  6. Understanding state and federal regulations governing technology functions in an educational environment.
  7. Prioritizing job tasks throughout the day and plans work completion accordingly.
  8. Enforcing security policies on all GFPS network systems and devices.
  9. Understands the importance of providing all users on the GFPS network with the tools necessary to complete an employee’s workday and a student’s educational experience.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months, Exempt

Evaluation: Annual written evaluation by the Supervisor.
