Grand Forks is Hiring a Remote Paraprofessional - Online Support

Eligible for Critical Shortage Adjustment. This is a one time payment per semester equivalent to an additional $1 per hour adjustment for hours worked, capped at $1,000 per employee for fiscal year 2022-2023.

If you are hired for this position, you will receive $200 upon successful performance and consistent employment in June at the completion of the school year if referred by a Grand Forks Public School current employee. Current district employees with scheduled hours are not eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

This position is onsite assisting online Speech Language Pathologists and School Psychologists.

Terms of Employment: Nine (9) months, academic school year

Hours: Monday through Friday, when school is in session

Variable full-time and part-time positions available with flexible scheduling.

Education: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency

Qualifications: Ability to work with a variety of student behaviors and educational needs, primarily in the general education classroom. Ability to work as a team member, demonstrates human relations skills, and demonstrates effective communication skills.

Job Goal: Work in the building to assist the online special education staff member (e.g. teacher, speech-language pathologist, school psychologist, occupational therapist, or physical therapist) with student engagement, organization, and classroom activities. Assists students with disabilities under the supervision of director of special education, assistant director of special education, and building administrators.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Assist online personnel in carrying out activities to achieve goals and objectives listed in the students' Individual Educational Plans.
  2. Assist students in engaging in instructional activities and assessments, and assist in communicating modification and adaptations to team members with the planning and supervision of the online special education staff member.
  3. Assist with the tracking of student progress through data collection.
  4. Work with computers and other adaptive AT equipment to aid in student learning.
  5. Supervise students individually and in small and large groups with the planning and direction of the online special education staff member.
  6. Assist in the provision of accommodations and adaptations.
  7. Assist students in developing self-management skills.
  8. Assist online special education staff member in classroom management and in the carrying out of positive behavior support plans.
  9. Partner with online special education staff member in monitoring the classroom to minimize distractions and disruptions to promote learning.
  10. Assist students in other ways as assigned by supervisors.
  11. Assist students in loading and unloading safely from buses and in drop off and pick up zones, if needed.
  12. Participate in professional development, including program specific training and behavioral de-escalation, to acquire specific skills needed to perform responsibilities.
  13. Promote learning environments that are student-centered, safe, and supportive where through effective communication and relationship building.
  14. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior.
  15. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the district supervisor. 

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and stand. Lift sixty (60) lbs. occasionally, with the ability to reach, stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and/or crawl. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely. Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated by the Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education, and Building Administrator.
