Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.Job SummaryTrains high school and post high school students (18-22 years old) with disabilities in skills required for independent living, community access, vocational skills, and student advocacy. Assists teachers with lesson plans, teaching, progress monitoring, behavior support and other duties as assigned by the teacher. Supports students and other trainers at job sites, bus training, community and leisure activities, and other duties as needed. Adaptable in learning new technology, maintains data and creates reports. Must keep student information confidential. Attendance and physical presence are required and is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
  • Instructs students in their individual transition goals.
  • Writes and implements lesson plans and instructs all aspect of a specific industry (floral, fine dining, etc.).
  • Monitors student progress daily and completes ongoing reports.
  • Assures appropriate student behavior.
  • Develops effective working relationships with business partners.
  • Supports other Granite Transition program activities and attends job fairs.
  • Models skills needed for successful employment in specific industries.
  • Supports high school and post high school teachers, staff, and students.
  • Attend required professional development opportunities to enhance skills in working with students, including but not limited to curriculum development, behavior management, job coaching and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of public transportation system and ability to train students in its use.

Required Education and QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent
Required Prior ExperienceOne (1) year of full-time job-related experience and six (6) months of on-the-job experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
  • Knowledge of district work-based learning policies and procedures and Federal Fair Labor Standards.
  • Knowledge of instructional techniques, curriculum development and classroom management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled to write and implement lesson plans related to student skill deficiencies.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technology, maintain, data, and create reports.
  • Skilled in keeping student information confident.
  • Basic reading, writing, math, organization, record keeping and computer skills.
Assigned Decision MakingMakes daily decisions within program guidelines regarding student behavior, student progress, and evaluations
Interactions With OthersInteracts positively and communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, teachers, administration, business partners, court system, DSPD, Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, SSI, other government agencies, and Transition Program staff.
Supervisory ResponsibilityOversees the safety of students. Supervises students at training sites. Numbers of students may vary based on their needs.
Budget ResponsibilityNA
Working EnvironmentWork setting is mainly in the classroom. May be asked to work inside and outside the building to accomplish assigned tasks. Working conditions can be in hot and cold weather. May experience stress from disruptive students and/or groups of students

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to stand/sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
