The successful School Counselor will:Provide individual and group counseling services to support the academic progress planning and success, career awareness and social/emotional development of students in accordance with planned objectives for grade levelDesign, deliver, evaluate and revise a planned sequential and developmentally appropriate school counseling curriculum to include lessons in academic success, career awareness and planning and personal/social growth and understandingInterpret student data and their implications for educational and career planning and develop needed interventionsConsult with students, families, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of studentsTake a leadership role in the infusion of counseling content into the curriculum, staff development and family education programsAssist in the transitions into and exiting at each building levelRefer students and their families, as needed, to appropriate specialists, special programs and/or outside agenciesKeep abreast of the latest research and practices in school counseling to determine what changes may need to be made in counseling servicesCoordinate with school personnel in planning curricular, co-curricular and service activities that support the counseling programCollect and analyze data to guide program direction and emphasisAdhere to the values and ethics of professional educational support staffFully participate in both internal and external professional development opportunitiesParticipate on the school’s STAT team and other committees as neededPerform other duties as requested by the administration
