Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity is Hiring an Operations Manager Near Bedford, VA

Reports Directly to: Administrative Director

Basic Functions:

The Bedford Operations Manager (BOM) is critical to the agency’s expansion in the Town of Bedford. In addition to staffing the Bedford office, the BOM represents Habitat for Humanity to recruit and support volunteers, including hospitality, construction crew members, individuals and groups, and special events volunteers. The BOM shall cultivate relationships that result in donors, including gifts in-kind. This position requires infrequent evenings and occasional Saturday mornings. There is flexibility in the schedule to accommodate non-traditional office hours.

Educational Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Some college preferred but not required.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

· Professional appearance, use of grammar, and demeanor.

· Strong working knowledge of computer operations (Microsoft Office Suite). (see bullet below)

· Volunteer coordination experience preferred.

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize work, giving careful attention to details.

· Strong teamwork ethic and responsiveness to remote supervision.

· Advanced communications, verbal and written, and public presentation skills.

· Effective interpersonal skills to work with diverse populations.

· Proficiency with computers and social media platforms.

· Ability to reach goals with little supervision after job training is complete.

· Mature thinking with ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs.

· Must be able to sit, stand, and walk at moderate intervals.

· Must be able to lift 20 pounds on a regular basis.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Office Administration

· Maintain consistent office hours in addition to out-of-office work engaging with the community.

· Respond to phone inquiries and walk-in inquirers and visitors in a professional manner and provide information about the program.

· Maintain printer and office supplies.

Family Services

Working with the Family Services Manager (FSM), the BOM shall perform certain Family Services tasks, including:

· Learning about the GLHFH Homeownership Program, especially the application process and partner family assimilation.

· Being responsible for homeownership application intake.

· Leading the process of partner family (approved homeowner applicants) assimilation.

· Communicating with the FSM regarding applications and partner family assimilation.

· Effectively answering questions and disseminating information regarding the homeownership program.

Outreach

· Visit businesses, churches, and agencies to build a network of collaboration.

· Provide community feedback to the management.

· Participate in related community initiatives and programs.

· Work with journalists to ensure accurate reporting of GLHFH activities.

· When practical, participate in social events, corporate events and workshops.

Volunteer Recruitment

· Complete in-house Safety Training & Certification program.

· Work with the Volunteer Manager to implement a volunteer recruitment plan for Bedford.

· When practical, represent GLHFH at community volunteer fairs.

· Respond to and provide follow-up recruitment efforts for those who make volunteer inquiries.

· Ensure the provision of volunteer hospitality, including special luncheons, meetings and other activities.

· Establish community involvement for occasional meals and refreshments for volunteer activities.

· Coordinate with Construction Leader for on-site logistics related to volunteers (parking, food set-ups, sign-in location, etc.).

· Support potential homeowners with volunteer activities (provide opportunity for sweat equity hours and encourage communication and bonding with volunteers and sponsors).

· Welcome and provide assistance for volunteer groups, as needed (occasional Saturday mornings).

Resource Development

· Craft and disseminate the message about the mission of Habitat for Humanity to end poverty housing, building on the power of the Habitat brand

· Seek to arrange major donor visits with the Executive Director.

· Work with the Volunteer Manager to cultivate volunteers as donors and donors as volunteers.

Steering Committee Meetings

· The Bedford Steering Committee serves under the authority of GLHFH’s Board of Directors. The committee does not function as a board but as an advisory team.

· The BOM, working with the Steering Committee chair, shall set the committee agendas and ensure that the committee meetings are held on a regular basis.

· Committee meetings take place at the Bedford Habitat office.

Staff Meetings

· The BOM shall attend GLHFH staff meetings held at the Lynchburg Office.

· The BOM shall be prepared to report Bedford activities and progress to the ED and GLHFH staff.

Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and determined appropriate to affiliate operations.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
