Position Title: Medical Director of Women’s Health - Primary Care Physician (MD/DO)

Department: Women’s Health – For Women-by-Women

Hours Needed: 30-40 per week

Clinic Hours: Weekdays 7:30AM-7:00PM, Saturdays 8:00AM-4:30PM

This is a fantastic outpatient opportunity for a board certified/eligible Family Medicine/Internal Medicine physician who’s passionate about primary healthcare for Women.

New Bedford Community Health (NBCH) is seeking a Medical Director with an interest in working in a fast-paced federally qualified Community Health Center providing the full spectrum of community care, located in downtown New Bedford, Massachusetts. We provide You will work to maintain collaborative relationships with staff throughout the Health Center to ensure the highest quality of care and operational efficacy and efficiency.

You will be an integral part of the Women’s Health department where you’ll deliver integrated outpatient primary care as well as gynecological support services such as pap smears, IUDs, and Nexplanon. The Medical Director will work to establish and maintain systems to ensure that patient services, clinical data, and workflows support organizational objectives. You will join a full staff of nurses, CHWs, MA’s and providers all committed to serving the diverse and underserved patient populations in New Bedford.

Under the general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Supervision of physicians and mid-level practitioners in Adult Medicine, providing ongoing mentorship and support as needed
  • Comprehensive outpatient primary care services including treatment of acute and chronic illness, preventive services, gender-specific screenings, and mental health services
  • Providing continuity of chronic care management including but not limited to well-woman annual exams, sick visits, hospital follow-ups, immunizations, STI testing & treatment and education, birth control counseling & management
  • Leading the clinical team in the treatment and services to patients seeking care in our Women’s Health department
  • Consultation and collaboration with all levels of the organization and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure patient needs are met. Ensures open lines of communication to, from and within the Department
  • Reviewing medical histories, interpreting diagnostic tests and labs
  • Managing complex medical issues within the scope of internal/family medicine practices
  • Diagnosing patient injury/illness and providing appropriate treatment and education
  • Facilitating appropriate utilization of the healthcare system and appropriate follow-up care
  • Establishing collaborative practices with members of team
  • Communicating with referring clinicians/facilities to ensure effective integration of care
  • Performance of annual evaluations of department professional providers and peer reviews as required
  • Ensuring that the department is meeting or exceeding all regulatory and Health Center quality and compliance requirements
  • Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic findings, medical plans and treatment follow-up

Required Education:

  • Current and unrestricted Massachusetts Physician License (MD/DO)
  • Active DEA and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration
  • Board Certification/Board Eligible in: Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification
  • Other Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Interest or experience in community and public health preferred
  • Comfortable with supporting LGBTQ population as well as individuals with substance use disorders
  • Commitment and interest in working with multi-cultural and impoverished populations
  • Experience providing medication assisted treatment (MAT)
  • Primary or secondary language skills in Spanish or Portuguese (not required)
  • Strong eMR systems experience
