Job Title: Senior Process Engineer

Term: Full time employment

Salary: On application and dependent on experience

Location: Glasgow (80 St Vincent Street) or Edinburgh (Stobo House, Midlothian Innovation Centre, Roslin) with travel expected to site, as required.

GCH focus on the deployment of electrolytic hydrogen projects as a key part of the global energy transition and de-carbonisation strategy. The business works closely with sister companies through the planning, permitting/licensing, engineering and design and construction of green hydrogen projects.

We are seeking a skilled Process Engineer with a chemical engineering background and a strong focus on process safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of process engineering tasks, ensuring safety, compliance, and optimal performance in our projects.

The Role:

• Delivery of all process engineering activities through feasibility, pre-FEED, FEED, commissioning, and operation of green hydrogen projects.
• Management of the process engineering aspects of multi-disciplinary projects in complex environments to time and budget.
• Development and implementation of efficient processes for green hydrogen projects, including equipment sizing, line sizing, operating pressure systems, and pressure relief systems calculations.
• Ensure the processes comply with relevant safety regulations and standards, conducting HAZID / HAZOP studies, SIL assessments, ALARP and LOPA. Develop and maintain safe operating limits and control philosophies.
• Responsibility for creating high-quality technical documentation throughout the engineering lifecycle. Including process flow sheets, engineering calculations, specifications, datasheets, and technical reports.
• Active engagement in the entire technical procurement process, including technology assessment, OEMs, system sizing, model selection, analysis of value in use, FAT, SAT, and commissioning.
• Authoring, updating, and approving process engineering drawings, including, but not limited to block diagrams, process flow diagrams and process and instrumentation (P&ID) diagrams.
• Ensuring that engineering solutions meet all functional, performance, and safety requirements, with consideration of project commercials and provide operating expense (OPEX) cost estimates.
• Preparation of detailed technical reports and documentation for design, testing, and operational procedures, inclusive of process design criteria, operating philosophy, specifications, acceptance test manuals, test results, material balances and properties, utility requirements, and maximum intended inventory.
• Mentor and support junior engineers within the engineering and project team(s).
• Establish operating guidelines for startup, shutdown, special cases, turndown, and emergencies. Maintain lists such as tie-in control and device interlocking.
• Work closely with project management, engineering teams, and external stakeholders to meet project deliverables.

The ideal Candidate must have:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering in an operational environment
• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated success in designing, optimising and implementing chemical processes with a strong emphasis on process safety.
• Expertise in risk assessment methodologies and process safety management.
• Proficiency in process simulations and use of relevant software tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, supported by a valid UK driving license.
• Have the right to work in the United Kingdom, full-time, in perpetuity.

The Candidate would benefit from:

• Experience in the hydrogen, renewable energy and/or industrial gasses sectors.
• Familiarity with industry-specific standards for process safety, such as ISO 9001, ISO 31000, IEC 60079, PED, ATEX/DSEAR, NFPA-2, ISO 22734, IEC 61511, IEC 62443.
• Professional accreditation or active membership in recognised engineering institutions
